What I'll Never Have

Cyrus POV

My heart and my head were obsessed with TJ. Now that I was over my crush on Jonah, I knew I would find someone else. What I never knew was that it would happen so quickly, and it took me a while to figure out how I truly felt about the tall sporty boy.

I didn't expect it to be him, the Not So Scary Basketball Guy, as I like to say. He had been treating me with more respect than anyone else, but I knew he wouldn't be interested in me. He was handsome, and he was popular with the rest of his team.

Much like Jonah was with the space otters. The only real difference between the two was that I was not the MVP for the basketball team, which to me was now the only area that Jonah was ahead of TJ in.

Each day at school, I watched him as he practised. He was always busy and being so athletic, he could often be found playing various sports. Whenever he looked at me, his smile would make me pay attention. I don't remember him ever smiling at anyone else, so I knew it had to mean something.

I would get home and all I could think about was TJ. Whenever I had a moment spare from doing homework, his face would be engraved in my imagination. My parents never really noticed how distracted I was, which was both a relief and worrying at the same time.

If ever he would talk to me, he would refer to me as "muffin". I quite liked that nickname, it had a warmth to it which allowed me to think nice, happy thoughts. I don't think he realised what he was doing most times.

I imagined going to watch him play a game of basketball, and when he scored, I would celebrate like it was the most important thing to happen in my life. He would be happy, and smiley. When the match would be over, I'd run to him and he'd kiss me, so lovingly and I would be in heaven.

And then, after feeling all that positivity and elation, I would crash back into reality. I was not going to be with him, and whenever I saw him, it was painful, as I knew no matter how hard I tried, he would never like me back.
