Minho and Jisung decided to eat at a cute bistro with outdoor seating that overlooked the plaza. The balcony was enveloped in hedges and flowers, giving the area a comfortable yet classy vibe.
After they ordered, Minho looked up at Jisung. "Alright, tell me everything. What have you been up to? How's work? Have there been any new boys in your life?" Minho raised his eyebrows. "I better hear a no about that last one."
Jisung smiled, his gums showing. "No, silly. I don't have time to meet new boys, anyways. I've pretty much been occupied with school and work. School's easy, as usual. I always have to help Jeongin, Hyunjin, and Seungmin with homework, though, which is totally exhausting." Jisung paused to take a drink and noticed that Minho was listening intently, his eyes focused on Jisung and nothing else. "And work- god, it's so exciting! It's like something straight out of a crime show!"
The older boy's eyes gleamed with happiness. "Oh? Do explain. Make sure to tell it to me like you're in this exciting crime show, too."
Jisung started explaining how he started as basically an intern, shadowing experienced employees and completing minimal tasks so that he could get the hang of the job. Then, one day, he noted a small detail in a case that had been overlooked, and suddenly, Jisung was given more difficult tasks for more important cases. He had gotten assigned to a seemingly cold case; it felt like they hit a dead end. The office hoped that Jisung could look at the case from a new perspective and figure out some kind of vital detail.
"So," Jisung began, "We start in the city of Seoul, Korea, where various murders have been found around the city. At first, they seemed unrelated, but as more information was uncovered, all evidence suggested that that might not be the case. These murders were conducted with different weapons and different methods. Officials couldn't find any relationships between any of the murders; they were erratic, random. Until one day, a determined detective finally found the connection: all of the victims were abusive or neglectful in one way or another. Drug addict? Found overdosed the next morning. Abusive parent? Laying beaten in their homes. So, the police has been trying to find the murderer by examining crime scenes multiple times, but the killings were so thorough that they are stuck at a dead end. And that's where I come in," Jisung finished, taking a long gulp of water to refresh his parched throat.
"Wow, that sounds very complex," Minho sweated, trying not to expose himself right then and there. What were the chances? Jisung, who was most definitely not Minho's crush, was working with the detectives that were trying to find Minho's murders Complex, indeed.
But Jisung was talking about this with stars in his eyes. He was so into the case, his voice reflecting his excitement as he talked about it. Minho almost wanted to help Jisung just to see the absolute adoration Jisung had for this topic.
However, Minho was trembling slightly. How could he do this? Jisung worked for the law, and Minho was the one breaking it. Would Minho have to confess to Jisung one day? If he ever did, their relationship would break. It would be unfixable.
Right then and there, Minho decided that he would keep his secrets to himself.
Trying to shake off the anxiety he felt from before, Minho tried to focus solely on Jisung. It seemed to work. The younger's attitude and personality seemed to draw Minho in. It was alluring.
After their meal, Minho told Jisung. "Jisung-ah, I want you to come study at my place if you ever have a day off." He stared at the boy, his gaze piercing. "I don't care if you bring the brats with you as long as you come."
Jisung smiled warmly, appreciatively. "Alright."
Minho almost visibly sighed in relief. "Great. Do you know when your next day off is? I liked spending time with you today. It was fun."
"Aww, you miss me already? You enjoyed this so much that you're already planning our next meetup? What if I wanted to hang out with my other friends?" Jisung teased, leaning towards Minho and biting his straw, smirking.
Minho rolled his eyes. "Yeah, right. I want to see you again. I think you're my favorite person right now."
It was Jisung's turn to roll his eyes. "I'm honored," he said sarcastically. "And unfortunately, I don't know when my next day off is. I'll have to let you know when I know, okay?"
Minho nodded, trying to ignore Jisung's lips and teeth nibbling at his straw.
"Also, make sure to stop by the coffee shop more often," Minho nagged, trying to remind Jisung of every place where they could see each other.
"Okay, I will," Jisung chuckled. "I should go. I need to do some work on the case, hyung. I'll catch you later!" Jisung stood and thanked Minho, leaving a generous tip on the table before briskly striding out of the bistro.
Minho watched wistfully as Jisung's slim figure was swallowed by the large sea of pedestrians going through their daily commute.
Minho stood, paid, and started his walk home. The weather was that perfect blend of warm air with a crisp breeze, but Minho still felt a little bit warm. Was it the food? The coffee he drank? Or could it be...?
Minho sighed, suddenly remembering that Jisung was hot on his tail, this close to sending Minho for a lifetime sentence of jail. This merely made Minho depressed, and on his walk home, he saw a bench in a park that was overlook a small stream. It looked quaint and peaceful, and Minho needed a place to relax for a second.
He plopped down on the bench, pulling a cigarette out of his back pocket and lighting it. He took a long puff on it, watching as the smoke dissipated into the blue sky as if it were never there. He thought about how screwed his relationship with Jisung suddenly became. Deep breath in, and out. He remembered how Jisung was straight, and Minho was definitely not, especially not for Han Jisung. Deep breath out, and in. He thought about how shitty he was going to feel until he got to saw Jisung again. Deep breath in, and out.
By that time, Minho was wheezing, hacking a lung out. His eyes watered, but he wasn't sure if that was from the coughing or from something else. God, going days without Jisung was worse than nicotine withdrawals.
Minho put out his cigarette and went home. He showered and laid in bed, curling into a tight ball.
Life was definitely not going his way right now.
