August

Minho woke up the next morning and decided that something needed to be done. He was tired of the routine of life and he wanted to change it up. He rolled out of bed, threw on an old shirt and some jeans, and traipsed out of the house.

At 4:00, Minho was back at his house, desperately shuffling through his potential outfits for his date with Jisung. He tried on so many outfits, by the time he was ready, he had clothes tossed over every inch of his bedroom. Minho glanced at the mirror and inspected his new look and took a deep breath. He checked at his phone for the time and hurriedly rushed out of the room.

---

Jisung's heart was pounding. He kept glancing at the clock only to see that two minutes had passed since he last checked. Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, the bell rang, and Jisung practically ran out of class, his anticipation making him jumpy.

Felix raised an eyebrow at him. "Going somewhere, Ji?" he asked, and he was answered with a swift nod before he dashed towards their apartments.

When he got there, he got dressed. Unlike Minho, Jisung had planned out this outfit the night before, tweaking it and perfecting it. Then, he went on a walk. He couldn't stay still. Jisung strode through the park, and he even walked in front of Minho's apartment once or twice, wondering if he could come early, and if Minho would mind.

When he checked his phone, he saw that it was 5:15, and Jisung decided that that was soon enough to head to the park. Minho had simply told him to meet him there, but he wasn't sure where. There weren't many people at the park, since it was starting to get dark. Still, he strode around, looking at the playground and reminiscing.

Then, he walked to the grass behind the park and saw someone on the grass. They were flattening out a blanket on the grass, carefully smoothing out any wrinkles on it. Jisung blinked, wondering if that was who he was looking for.

The figure turned around, as if he could sense that someone was watching him. Minho's brown eyes met Jisung's, and Jisung couldn't help but to catch his breath.

Minho stood, scratching the back of his head sheepishly. "Hey," he said, his cheeks flushing.

Jisung opened and closed his mouth like a fish. The last time he had seen Minho, he was so pretty with his naturally black hair and confident smile. Now, Minho had light brown hair and a shy look on his face. Jisung's eyes lingered on Minho's hair. It suited him so well. Jisung didn't know what to do. He kinda sorta wanted to see if his hair was as soft as it looked.

"Uh, hi," Jisung mumbled, still shocked. "Your hair...I like it," he said numbly, eyes still glued on it.

Jisung noticed as Minho's lips quirked up, and he walked towards Minho when he beckoned him towards him.

"So, uh, I set up a little picnic," Minho smiled meekly, motioning towards the little arrangement on the floor.

"Ooh, that sounds great!" Jisung grinned warmly. "Did you make the food?"

Minho nodded, and he took a seat next to Jisung. He reached into a cute little basket and brought out sandwiches and some soup. His eyes darted towards Jisung, trying to gauge his reaction.

"And if you don't want this, we can always grab something else," Minho added hurriedly, worried that Jisung didn't like what he prepared.

Jisung's heart sank slightly at Minho's nervousness. He put on his biggest smile and told him excitedly, "It looks delicious. Thank you for making this, Minho-hyung."

Minho's eyes brightened, and Jisung began to eat. It was delicious, and Jisung was surprised that Minho was able to cook something so spectacular.

"Wahh, seriously, is this from a restaurant? This is so good! Are you sure you made this, hyung?" Jisung teased, his heart fluttering when he saw Minho smile.

After they finished that, Minho reached into his basket again and pulled out a small cheesecake. "Felix told me that you loved cheesecake," he explained when he saw Jisung looking at him.

"But I also bought some mochi, just in case you were craving something different," Minho added, smiling sweetly.

Jisung returned the smile and went for the cheesecake. They shared it. Jisung was staring at the park, but Minho was staring at the honey-sweet boy in front of him.

"Hyung," Jisung said after a while, still staring at the playground. "What's your favorite memory growing up?"

Minho blinked in surprise, caught off guard. "Hmm, if I were to pick one, it would be this playground. There's a reason why I moved to these apartments," he told Jisung, who was focused on Minho again.

"When I was around fourteen, I would go to this park after school. I didn't have a whole lot of friends because I moved schools pretty often. Still, it made me happy just to sit out under a tree and watch the little kids play. There were also a few cats that liked to come to me," he said the last part with a soft smile on his face. "There was also a boy who would talk to me every once in a while."

Jisung's heart was pounding in his ears. "Crazy enough, my favorite memory is here, too." Jisung  whispered, and Minho's head snapped towards him in surprise.

"Really? What are the chances?" Minho asked, not realizing how shaken Jisung looked.

"After my dad died, I would come to this park to get my mind off of things, especially when times were really hard. I was around twelve," Jisung said slowly, watching as Minho slowly started to piece things together.

"When I came here on my worst days, there always used to be a boy who would feed the cats and tell me jokes. He always brightened my day," Jisung was staring into Minho's shining eyes, and Minho was looking right back, his breath coming in short gasps.

"I never knew his name," Jisung said. "But I think I might know who he was."

His voice was barely above a whisper when Jisung asked, "Was that you?"
