Athena's POV
I'll admit, my first night here wasn't great, mainly because the girls next door won't shut up, and Mr Smith woke everybody up with a cowbell! really? Harley, James and I sit together in the dining hall eating our so-called "breakfast" which consisted of orange slob which I think could possibly be eggs and stale toast. Ms O Connor rises from her seat and ushers everyone to be quiet.
"Good morning campers, we hope you had a good night's sleep, today your first activity is Orienteering, you will be put in pairs and have to locate 10 different stations only using the map given and remember this is a competition," She says
"Team 1, Harley and James,"
"Team 2, Athena and Liam,"
NO.
This is SO NOT HAPPENING.
I REFUSE.
I here Harley start to giggle at the coincidence, I stand up and march up to Ms O Connor to protest against her horrible decision.
"Miss I just can't be-" I say before she cuts me off
"So Athena the groups have already been decided," dammit, I try a bit of mind control but it doesn't work, probably because I'm too tired. Ugh.
"Hey, let's just start this map thing, the later we start, the later we finish," Liam says grabbing onto my arm
"Fine, but don't think I'm going to cooperate," I hiss
"Look, it's not like I want to do this either," He says
"I think we should start with station 6 because it's the closest," He says trailing off with the map.
"No, I think we should go to station 1 because it's most logical to start with the first one!" I say snatching the map off him.
"Fine, but don't get angry if we lose," He says a bit louder than his normal tone.
This absolutely sucks, of course, of course, I had to get paired with Liam the Hollier than thou angel.
We walk down the dusty gravel track through the forest, the tall trees tower over my head as I follow the map with Liam, we don't speak to each other at all, which is probably the only thing keeping us from ripping each others heads off.
"Hey, we have to cross this creek," He says hesitantly
"And how are we going to do that genius?" I ask sarcastically
"Jump?"
"No,"
"Swim?"
"No,"
"step on each rock?' He asks
"They're too slippery, there's no way," I say flatly
"How about I put my jacket on that rock so you don't slip?" He asks
Gee, could you be any more cliche?
"Fine," I say
"Anything for you princess," he says taking off his jacket and throwing it on the rock
Reluctantly I step onto the first rock, oh no, the jackets slipping, no, no, no, "Liam do something!" I scream I feel my foot getting closer and closer to the surface of the water until I go all in.
"You realise the water is only like half a meter deep?" He chuckles
oh.
laughing, he's laughing?
"Okay this isn't very funny," I say
"I'm not laughing at you, I'm laughing at the entire situation," He says
"I don't follow," I say
"But seriously what are the odds of two people from completely opposite ends of the world ending up in the same town, school and now camp group? My job is to spread love and goodness and yours is the complete opposite, basically, you make a mess and I have to clean it up, I find it hard to believe actually," He says smiling at the ground.
I take a second to reflect on this, he kind of makes a point but I still find it an inconvenience.
"Come on, get out of the creek so we can finish this task," He says extending his arm out for me to take it.
"I don't need your help," I snarl
"Okay, meanwhile you sit there and look depressed I'm going to get our card stamped," He says walking to the pole where the stamp sits on top.
I lift my legs out the muddy water and walk over to Liam.
"How do we get to the second station?" I ask calmly, Liam flashes me an encouraging smile and says.
"We just need to continue going north this path, and then turn left, 2,3 and 4 should be there," He says
"Okay," I say
we walk through Emerald forest pushing past trees and bushes, autumn leaves crunching beneath our feet, civilisation nowhere in sight numbers 2 and 3 stamped off on our little card.
"I found 4, oh! and 5 is here too!" I say excitedly
"Nice,"
Half an hour later...
"Ugh, where is number 10?" I say getting visibly frustrated.
"It should be up this hill," Liam says looking up and down from the map
We start walking up the steep hill in search for the last stamp which will finally allow me to get away from Liam.
"There's nothing he-"
"LIAM!," I scream as he grabs my arm and we both tumble down the hill until we stop at the bottom, there is grass in my hair! but all I can get out is a laugh, Liam laughs along with me
"Sorry, that was an accident," He chuckles
"Yeah, grabbing my shoulder to roll down with you was an accident," I said humorously.
I take a deep breath and look up to see Miss O Connor staring down on us.
"You two are done I see?" she asks
"Yeah, pretty much," Liam says
"Congratulations, you both have come first place," She says
"Great, no more time spent with you!" I say turning to smile at Liam, then I get up and walk to Harley and I's cabin so I can wash this stupid grass out of my hair!
Hope you guys enjoyed that chapter! next one should be coming soon, almost at 200 reads!
