Part 10: Angel's touch

Liam's POV

After Athena left I asked Mariah to leave me alone for a while, she's really thrown me with her whole theory about Athena, which in my opinion is absolutely ridiculous but the idea keeps slipping into my mind. That night Mariah slept over at the hospital with me, To say I hate being in the hospital is an understatement, I hated the way I was restricted from too much movement, I hated how everyone around me looked miserable but last but not least I hated the smell of chemicals and cleaning products that wafted through the air wherever I went.

One thing Mari and I slightly enjoyed was that we could go to the nursery and see the newborn babies, their lives had only just begun and they all had soo much ahead of them, on the other hand, so many other people began their journey to heaven from here. Before I went to bed that night I heard something, weeping, crying, the crying of a little child. I couldn't fall asleep without knowing what was wrong with her. I lifted the covers off me and walked down the illuminated hallway, ignoring the smell the crying got louder and louder until I reached room number D27, I looked the room to see a young girl approximately aged 9 sitting on her mothers lap on the bed, crying into her mothers arms, "Mummy I don't want to die," She said. My heart ached for the child, I took 2 steps into the room, Her mother looked at me with a confused expression but didn't say anything, the child still crying hadn't acknowledged my presence. I stepped even closer then placed my right hand on the girls head and she immediately stopped crying and turned her head to look at me, in the corner of my eye I could see her mother staring at me shocked. I walked out of the room as if nothing happened and went to sleep straight after that.

The next morning I wake up, memories of last night fill my mind, I have to go see that little girl and make sure she's ok I thought to myself, I take the same route to room D23 but when I get there the room is empty, what happened?

"Excuse me, doctor, what happened to the patient that was in this room last night?" I ask

"She's been cleared to go home, incredible really, her tumour disappeared overnight, in all my years I've never seen anything like it," She says

Did I have something to do with it? I thought to myself.

Back in my room, I see a very nervous Mariah pacing up and down.

"Where have you been?" She asks

"Just checking on someone," I say truthfully

"Okay, I wish it didn't have to come to this but we really need to get you out of here..." She says

"And?" I ask

"So I'm thinking of speeding up your recovery," She says

"And how are you going to do that?"I ask

"Healing powers of course, but only to an extent because we can't make it to obvious, because the doctors will get really suspicious about it," She says.

"Are you sure about this?" I ask

"Yes but we need to do it now before anyone sees," 

I get into a comfortable position on the bed as Mari places her hands above my body and closes her eyes she puts all her energy and concentration into healing me. Shinning golden strings come out of her hands and wrap around my body sending a tingling sensation all through my body. My body starts to levitate. After a minute the golden strings go back into Mari's hands and she opens her eyes. The process is complete.

I move my foot around in its cast and it feels perfectly normal

"You're amazing, you realise that right?" I ask smiling

"Pfft you could probably do it when you're older," She says brushing me off, at that moment a nurse walks into the room

"Hello Liam, do you mind if we run some tests on your foot?" She asks with a clipboard in hand

"Sure," 

The nurse removes the cast from me and puts me under the x-ray, an image of my foot appears on the screen.

"What, how can this be?" The nurse says in disbelief staring straight the x-ray. Mariah winks at me and I smirk.

"What is it?" I ask already knowing the answer.

"Liam, you're foot is fully healed," She says in shock

                                                                                  ******

Later that afternoon I was clear to go home, I was given a pair of crutches just to be careful, Mariah thought it was a good idea to go to church after everything that's happened, Saint Peter's is a small church on a hill with a blue roof and a flower garden in the back, it's really peaceful whenever we go, before we left I heard a knock on the door, I open up to see Athena standing there, her beauty stuns me for a moment.

"Hey," I say relaxed

"Um I didn't expect to see you home so early, just came by to drop off some homework," She says handing me some paperwork

"Thanks," I say, "Hey, do you want to go church, me and Mari are about to leave," I ask

I see her hesitate but she says "sure,"

Because St. Peter's is walking distance from our house we go by foot, the whole time Athena asks questions about me supposed recovery but I think I handled it well by giving regular answers, Mariah stays silent. 

Athena's POV

We walk up the steep hill, I'm starting to feel sick, as I get closer and closer to the doors of the church my head starts to hurt, maybe this is a consequence of a demon getting close to a holy place. We step through the doors and then it hits.

Burning.

All over me, my arms, chest, legs. It all feels so hot, rashes start to cover my skin, it hurts to scratch and itch, in an instance, I feel like I'm dripping in sweat, Liam seems to notice because he asks

"ATHENA WHAT'S WRONG?" He asks clearly concerned

Before I can respond a handful of holy water is thrown at me from behind, I scream in agony as if the water has burned a hole in my scalp.

"I told you!" Mariah snarls from behind me, that bitch was the one that threw the water at me!

"MARIAH WHAT THE FUCK?!" Liam screams

"You bitch!" I hiss at her, then I turn around and run straight out of the church, I sprint down the hill but along the way, I trip on a twig and injure my ankle adding to the pain, at this rate tears are pouring down my face but I keep running, I need to get away from that place, This was such a bad idea.
