"Chancellor Kane said he needs to see you."

Bellamy didn't bother to make an announcement before barging into Marina's tent, causing her eyes to dart up from the book in her hand.

An entire day had passed since their last interaction and yet he walked in like nothing had happened. He was bold to say the least.

"Okay," She closed her book and sat it next to her. "I'll be there shortly."

"What are you reading?"

Marina looked at the back of the book before looking back at him.

"The Great Gatsby."

"Never heard of it." He said.

"I grabbed it from what's left of the old library. Kane said I could take whatever I wanted."

Kane seemed to have a soft spot for Marina, for whatever reason that Bellamy had yet to figure out.

"What is it about?" He asked.

Marina raised her eyebrow. She didn't take him for the literary type, especially since he had never heard of one of the most popular books in American literature.

"It's about this guy who throws all of these elaborate parties and does all of these crazy gestures to try and win this girl over," She said. "It's actually pretty good."

He nodded in response. He didn't care to know what it was about, he just wanted an excuse to talk to her and couldn't think of anything else.

"Maybe I can borrow it from you sometime." He said, brushing his hair out of his face.

Marina wasn't sure what to say. She didn't trust him, and barley felt comfortable around him now that she knew the truth.

"Um, sure." She said as she stood up.

She pushed passed him and started towards Kane's office.

"Hey," Bellamy said, grabbing her arm to stop her. "Did I do something wrong?"

His question caught her off guard.

"What?"

"You ran off mid conversation yesterday. Clearly something is wrong."

"I just...." she trailed off.

She wasn't prepared for that question. He made her nervous, and seeing as how she was nervous at baseline, him throwing a curve ball into the already tense atmosphere nearly took her out. She bit the inside of her cheek while simultaneously racking her brain for an appropriate response, but instead found nothing but muddled chaos.

"Listen, I know you think I'm a terrible person, but, just know that I did what I had to do."

"Okay."
