Nagito always loved being at the library.

It was calm, it was quiet, and above all else, his bad luck couldn’t seem to find him there. He enjoyed reading too, so libraries being his only safe haven didn’t bother him. He’d frequent them often, especially since he didn’t have any friends before, and while he wouldn’t call it his talent to read or anything… It did connect strongly to him in a way that let him feel at peace. After all, what could be better than a beautifully written poem, or an awesome book about anything he found interesting. With nothing to bother him at all, it was truly the best place for him. It was no wonder he wanted to take you here all this time.

It may not have been any kind of date like you would’ve originally hoped for before the festival, but it did seem fun either way. You were actually the one to surprise him with this, since you thought he might like reading. It’d also be a nice break from the rowdiness he usually experienced while he was at school. He did mention something about liking quiet places more too… Anyways, when you grabbed his arm and lead him to your favorite library in town, (nothing like the conveniently close one you usually frequented together) his eyes started to gleam, and he turned to you with an even brighter smile.

“It’s the same one I always went to! I hadn’t realized how long it’d been since I’d gone… Thank you so much (Y/n)... I truly don’t deserve such kindness from you!” He grasped both of your hands in his and stared into your eyes, a truly blissful look on his face. You didn’t think he’d be this happy about it, but you were thankful for it. Both of you had been a little weird since the festival months ago, not exactly awkward you know? Just kinda weird. But now, you could be glad that he was back to normal again!

In a few seconds, he started to blush, then he quickly let go of your hands and opened the door for you, motioning for you to step inside first while he turned his head away.

Ok… So almost not weird.

“Nagito…” You whispered lightly. You were usually louder, but you wanted to be really careful. Getting you both thrown out of the library would probably be counted as bad luck, and above all else… You did not want that to happen. “Hm?” He looked up at you from his book. “I found another good book from that author you like, and also, a book with a bunch of pretty poems!~ Here!” You bent over the table to pass them to him. “Thanks!” He chuckled back lightly.

“Oh!” Nagito whispered again, “I found another romance novel written by Fukawa Toko! Do you want it?”

Your eyes gleamed as he held the book out to you, “Y-Yeah! I’ve always wanted to read one of her books, but I’ve never had the chance because of school work!”

“Ah, really? Would you mind if I bought it for you then? I’ve heard that this book is one of her best… And I think you’d really like it too.”

You smiled, “You don’t have to do that you know… I can come back and read it later or something.”

“But I know you have things to do… And we have to leave soon, we’ve been here for a while. It’s already dark.”

You pouted, “I… Don’t wanna…” You yawned. “You were right you know… We don’t get to hang out a lot anymore, can’t we stay a little longer? Plus, it’s so cold out there…! And so… warm in here...” You pleaded.

He chuckled again with a worried smile and promptly got out his seat to walk over to you. “Ah… I’m sorry I let us stay here for too long, you’re tired…” He picked up some of the books you were both reading and piled them together after saving the pages. “Here, take my hand. I’ll walk you home.” You pouted again, but you didn’t argue, instead, you nodded and took his hand, grabbing the last few books and walking with him to the front desk. He checked out the books, bought a few, and as you both walked outside to see the dark starlit sky, you appealed to him one last thing.

“Before you take me home… Can we go get some tea or coffee?” You stared up at him with big puppy dog eyes. He looked away, then sighed in defeat, “Fine.. How could I say no to you?” And you responded with a grin. “You can’t!”

“Oh! It’s a little late for a lovely young couple like you to be out this late isn’t it? What would you both like?” The lady at the counter asked lightly with a smile. You waved your hands in denial then stopped the movement to speak. “W-we’re not a couple, w-we’re not even, well u-um…” You looked up at Nagito to catch him staring, and once he caught your glance, blushing lightly, he slowly looked away. “Not even dating or anything… We’re just friends miss.” You finished. She chuckled, “Then why are you still holding hands? You just came from a library right? It’s a lovely night to go out.~” You blushed. Jeez, who was this lady? Your secret wingwoman or something...? “Haha, I’m sorry, just teasing you know? What would you two like?”

You both still hadn’t let go of each others hands until you started drinking. “So…” You started, staring down at your drink. “Hmm?” Nagito hummed, taking little sips of his own. “What do you think the class is going to do for Christmas?” He sat down his drink and leaned his head to the side, eyes closed as he thought for a second. “I’m not sure. Maybe… Secret santa, a gaming tournament… Ah! Seven minutes in heaven even sounds fun!” He chuckled lightly for a second. “But... I don’t know if I’d be able to join you guys…” You looked up at him in worry, “Why not?” You asked. He looked up at you. No doubt more thoughts were spinning in his head as always, conjuring up more questions that would never be answered, and answers to questions that would never be asked. “I guess… It’s because I don’t want to get in the way. I’d hate to cause bad luck in the middle of such an exciting gathering for you ultimates, nor would I want to ruin the atmosphere with my depressing presence.” You sighed, at least he stopped there. “Nagito… You’re not depressing, I’m sure you’re getting along well with everyone, you’re being too harsh on yourself.” Your hand itched to move onto his at the table, but you withheld.

“Thank you… (Y/n). You really are a radiant, shining, ultimate. A true symbol of hope.” He smiled, “I’ll go with you guys if you make plans ok? I’ll be sure to help out as much as I can too.”

You smiled back and yawned again. “Oh, we really should get going, (Y/n), you’re nodding off again...” You giggled, “Am I? Sorry, I didn’t mean to worry you. Let’s go!” You took his hand and he led you to the door as you used your other hand to stifle another yawn. You held the books tighter to your chest as you both approached the entrance only to see a sudden flurry of heavy snow. Then you looked over to Nagito while he smiled sadly at the clouds in the sky. “Ah, would you look at that? Just my luck.”
