When Junko, Mukuro, and Mitarai left to watch anime, they left you behind. Junko's head turned to you as she grinned mischievously, "I'll be seeing you later Ok? So don't make too many plans or I'll have to drag your ass!" You didn't know what to say, all of that was weird. A lot weirder than what you expected from her, but you learned that weird was usually good right? You couldn't get all negative over someone having charisma, so you waved back at her and nodded absentmindedly. You needed to check on Chiaki, so you started walking. You expected to see Enoshima and the rest of her class later, and aside from that, you'd been reminded now. You really didn't think much of it before... But were those two calls to the office that important?

From what you could remember of the first visit... It peaked your interest for a while back then when you were still very self conscious of your talent...

"Calling (L/n) (Y/n) to the downstairs office, I repeat. (L/n) (Y/n) to the downstairs office."

You blanked at the mention of your name, Nagito stopping as well as the intercom's voice resonated through the nearly empty classroom. It was before Miss Yukizome, back when there weren't many students attending class. You were nervous to leave Nagito behind, but he waved for you to go, not to worry.

"It might just be my parents giving me something I forgot at home... I'll be back!"

"Seriously, don't worry about it, I'll be fine for however long you need." He insisted.

You bowed an apology again, then sprinted out of the classroom and down the hall. Eventually reaching the office, you sighed and rested with your hands on your knees in front of the door. While you were catching your breath, you hesitantly knocked on the door. 'What could they possibly want me for?' You thought to yourself, 'Is it really my parents or have I done something wrong...?'

"Come in."

Your eyes blew wide with fear, 'What if they decided bringing me here is useless? What if their background check made them realize I don't fit into this school!?' You opened the door shaking, the door handle rattling with you as you held back tears. "Are you ok Miss (L/n)?" The man at the desk gave you a worried look.

"Y-yeah" You sniffled, "I just freak myself out sometimes." You smiled and laughed a little to ebb away at your nerves.

"I'm guessing you don't know why you're here, yes?" The man asked. You shook your head. "Yeah... Is it something about my talent?" You asked quietly. "It is actually..." To that you froze, staring up in horror and taking a seat in the chair across from his desk when he motioned for you to. He continued, "You only recently started developing your talent, and you only now earned the SHSL title for it. It's a relatively unique talent to have, as are many others, but there is a reason why we sought your talent in the first place." You fumbled nervously with you shirt sleeve, waiting to hear his answer. "Would you be interested in extracurricular practice for your talent? It'd be a chance for you to hone your skills better seeing as you haven't had much time with it at all." He appealed. You hadn't gotten the sharper answer you were looking for, but you nodded anyways. "Sure, what kind of project is it...?"

"It'll be awhile before you're needed. In maybe a year or so, a new student will join Hope's Peak Academy. But this student hasn't been around people. He's gifted in everything, but we need to make sure he's stable while we're getting him accustomed to life here. Do you understand?"

"Woah, you want me to help him? Like... Being his friend?" You laughed "Sure! I can do that!" You nodded in excitement. You could tell Nagito about this, he could help you, and maybe you three could all be friends together! You were sure Nagito wouldn't mind, he needed more people to share life experiences with anyways, so you were hoping at least that this wouldn't bother him. You could show Nagito that he too had what it takes to become someone's friend and-

"Also, Miss (L/n). It's really important that you don't mention this to anyone. Not your friends, not your parents, and not even your teacher. There's only a select few staff members involved in this and your teacher isn't one of them. You're working as part of a confidential project after all.

Thinking back on it now, it was just as he said. It took a while before you were called again. You'd almost forgotten about the encounter with all of the other fun things that had happened in these school years.

Earlier, before the celebration with Miss Yukizome's return, you were taken to the original school building where they told you a little more about who you were working with and how you meant to help him.

"You'll be more like his friendly counselor or personal buddy. Remember, you still can't tell anyone about this for complicated reasons."

"Am I allowed to know those reasons...?" You asked quietly. At this point, you were smarter than before. Maybe it was an effect of being around Nagito for so long, but it made you nervous to even think about what these complicated reasons could be.

"I'm sorry, but we can't even tell you yet. But rest assured you'll be protected if anything comes up."

'What does that mean...?' You thought to yourself nervously. But you never did get an answer. They didn't mention it being any kind of dangerous project before when you agreed to be a part of it, so no duh you were worried out of your skull. Still, you thought it over again, brushing other fretful thoughts aside, Hope's Peak would never do anything harmful or endangering to a student right? And certainly nothing that could ruin their reputation- So you should be ok! It'd be fine, whatever it was, it couldn't matter as much as this celebration for Miss Yukizome right?

You finally left your thoughts, showing up at the reserve course entrance and spotting Chiaki in the front with the same lonely frown she'd had for a while when she was here.

"Chiaki, the school is empty... And by now everyone is probably at home. I'm sure we'll see him eventually..." You laid a hand on her shoulder as she stayed silent. The sun continued to set, giving off a red and orange glow to Chiaki's saddened face as she stared at the building, her game in her hand by her side. After a couple more seconds she turned to you and nodded. "Sorry, I'm ready to go now..." You felt bad, dragging her away like this, but you both knew he probably wasn't here now. You grabbed her hand and walked home.
