You must be blind

I'm a hopeless girl
with a damaged soul,
too numb for love
too guarded to fall.

The words stuck in my head
the thoughts trapped inside,
I wish I could show you
the feelings that I hide.
Then maybe you'd see
how messed up I am,
and you'd realize that
you're wasting your time.

When you said that
you'd wait for me
to love you back,
I could see the hope
shining in your eyes,
but I couldn't make
empty promises,
and I just couldn't
comfort you with lies,
so I hugged you
without a word,
and we stood there
with nothing left
to be said.

But I knew then
our time was up,
I knew then
we had to stop.

You must be blind
to all my flaws,
why else would you
put up with my walls,
why else would you knock
till your knuckles hurt,
knowing I've locked
the door to my heart.

I'm not worth it,
why can't you see?
How could you love
someone like me?

How could you give
without taking
anything back,
How could you stay
with me in the dark,
when you could be
in the light instead,
When you could find
a better girlfriend.

You must be blind
but it's okay
because I'm not
and I'll push you away.
You've been hurt long enough,
so I'll save you from myself.
