CHAPTER TWO
ii. this is only the beginning
_______

Sebastian Rais liked to watch the war games from a distance. He observed each and every camp, even if just for a few moments, in hopes of gaining more information about them. Unbeknown to most of the camp, Sebastian kept records on everyone. He'd started making one on Percy while they were all having dinner.

Lucia sat at his side, smoothing out her royal blue dress as they watching from the observation tower, along with Nico di Angelo who didn't really speak to either of them except a brief greeting. He never competed in the games given that he was just a guest - though Sebastian was well aware that he knew how to fight. Sebastian never competed either given his unfair advantages and Lucia often sat out depending how... drained she was feeling.

For this game, the engineers had built a stone fortress with an iron portcullis, guard towers, scorpion ballistae, water cannons, and no doubt many other nasty surprises for the defenders to use. The First and Second Cohorts were already inside the fortress, preparing for the attack as the rest of the Cohorts assembled on the Field of Mars. Reyna circled above on Scipio, ready to play referee. Half a dozen giant eagles flew in formation behind her - prepared for ambulance airlift duty if necessary.

With his enhanced eyesight, Sebastian could make out Percy. Frank was checking over his armour, only to find that it was done perfectly. They only thing that looked out of place on the boy was his celestial bronze sword.

Sebastian didn't bother listening in to the strategies. It was always the same. Send Fifth in first to soften up the defences. He hoped that now they had Percy on their side, they'd manage to strike some luck.

And how his wishes came true.

He'd lost sight of Percy, Frank and Hazel as they'd gone into the tunnels to get closer to the fortress undetected, but when he saw them again it was because Percy had exploded a water cannon into a starburst of blue, green and white with his powers. A smile settled on Sebastian's lips as the defenders became so scattered with confusion.

Using an arrow to do so, Frank formed a ladder so they could be into the fortress. He was the first one up, and was the one who encouraged the rest of the Fifth Cohort to attack. With newfound motivation, they cheered and ran back into battle.

The Third and Fourth Cohorts ran to join the fight, which seemed to give the Three Musketeers the incentive to fight even harder. They moved like a team that had fought together for years.

Sebastian couldn't help but admire Perseus Jackson. He knew the boy was destined for greatness, supposedly the best sword-fighter of his time, but Sebastian never thought he'd get the privilege of seeing him in action. He fought like a demon, whirling through the defenders' ranks in the unorthodox, Greek style he'd been taught. The Romans didn't know how to defend themselves from his attacks. And, of course, Sebastian couldn't stop the smile when Percy slammed the butt of his sword into Octavian's helmet, sending the centurion collapsing like a sock puppet.
