Chapter 22

It was the next day and he slowly started to wake up. The first thing he noticed was a warmth that surrounded him. One which made him snuggle into it. The next thing which was noticed by Kaito was a calm and steady thumping sound. It was then that he realized that he was cuddling with someone.

'Uh, wha-oh yeah...'

His cheeks felt like heating up as realizing that he was right now cuddling with the Heisei holmes. Kaito felt his crush move slightly and it was making him feel so much shyer. Right now he wasn't sure how to react. His heartbeat was going a bit faster, which you could hear from the heart monitor. 

"Mornin' Kai-chan."

Hearing that nickname was making his heart skip a beat. God was he loved how he called him. His cheeks were burning more now, and he was sure that he was by now a flustered mess. Soon saphire eyes met his Indigo once.  

"Ah, m-morning..."

The teen chuckled as the hug was left and he pouted slightly. God was he wanted to continue cuddling with the latter person.

"I would stay with you, but you and I know that I have to go back home and then to school."

He nodded feeling disappointed that his crush had to go that soon. By this point, his shyness was forgotten.

"I promise you that I will come as soon as school is finished back. So stop looking like this."

Kaito nodded and he was feeling clingy. His body was still a pain in the arse and this made him feel moody.

"Fine..."

 Shinichi let out a sigh, giving him a kiss on his cheeks. His cheeks felt again burning and he was sure that he was a blushing mess once more.

"I will go now. See you later, my lovely dove."

The nickname made him just more flustered, and he was sure that by now his entire face was a blushing mess.

"Um a-alright see y-you Sh-Shin-chan."

His voice a shy and Shinichi had a goofed smile now on his lips. With this, he left and Kaito was alone. Kaito was still exhausted, and his body was still in pain. Soon he dozed off again.

"Are you sure that you want to be there when I interrogate the boss of this animal organization, Hakuba-kun?"

Saguru was sure about this, and wouldn't back out. He even decided to skip class just to be in the interrogation. Right now he couldn't care about school and called telling them that he was on a big case and couldn't come because of this. Not even Shinichi knew about him being here.

"Yes, I am sure about this. I need to know something, and for that, I need to be there."

He was set on going with them and Megure-keibu let out a sigh and muttering something under, which he could understand.

"Fine, as long as you don't cause too much trouble."

He let out a sigh as he went through his hair. Saguru wasn't planning on causing trouble but he needed to know this. It would be an opportunity he would miss.

"Don't worry, but this can't wait and has to do with my investigation about something."

The adult was curious but stopped asking and now the two walked inside.  The male on the chair had a chilling cold smile. It made him have a shiver going through his body.

"Oh, hello to you two."

The voice a smooth yet deep one. It sounded different than the smile which was on the lips.

"Good day."

He greeted as well and leaning onto the wall. Saguru decided to wait until the inspector would tell him that he can ask his questions.

"The blondie doesn't seem like a police officer, so what is he doing here?"

The voice was neutral and he felt him getting nervous. Just how he looked at him, and how he smiled was enough to make him be on high alert.

"This is Hakuba-kun an inspiring detective. He is here because he has some questions for you as well. He is investigating something."

That seemed to make the person smile more coldly. Saguru could tell that this adult was bad news.

"So you were the one who burst into my hideout. I have to applaud you, no one has managed to do this. I will answer your question, but you have three questions more I won't answer."

This was a surprise to him, and as well to the inspector. There was a silence for a moment until the inspector started to talk.

"You can go first then Hakuba-kun."

He nodded as pushing him from the wall and walking up. Next, he sat on the chair and looking straight into the adult's eyes.

"Do you have spies in the police?"

The said adult looked a bit surprised just for a second and then it was back to the same expression.

"Hoh, you are good. How did you know?"

It took him a moment to gather his thoughts again. This male kind of told him in a subtle way that there were spies. Megure-keibu was narrowing his eyes but not saying anything.

"Because some evidence was missing on a crime scene. To a crime scene that looked like suicide. Had you something to do with the death of a female called Chikage Kuroba?"

There was a chuckle heard and the boss looked impressed this time, as a smirk was seen on his lips.

"Hoh, I am impressed. But where is the evidence that it disappeared? You said yourself that the evidence wasn't there anymore, maybe you just fabricating lies right now."

That was what he needed. It made him smirk as pulling out his file and putting it into the hands of the inspector.

"This here is the file of the crime scene, made by myself of course. Even photos of what is missing. I wouldn't just tell these things without evidence. Checkmate I would say."

This was making the male blink as soon as laughing. It was a humorous laugh. The inspector skimmed through the file and narrowing his eyes.

"This is different than the one we had. There is missing stuff, so there really are moles in our police department."

The boss stopped laughing as letting out a sigh.

"You are good, and I can imagine now why you are respected by the police. Checkmate indeed. I was over smarted by a brat like you. Yes, there are moles and yes we did kill Chikage and Toichi Kuroba."

His arms folded together as he narrowed his eyes at this. 

"I thought Toichi Kuroba had an accident in his magic show and was not killed. And what is the reason for killing the two?"

Saguru could just guess the reason, and this was his last question. A question that would answer everything, he needed to know.

"Toichi was getting in our way and he wasn't going to help us, so we had to kill him. As for Chikage, she was going too close to the truth. I decided to kill her. This was the last question."

He stood up and glancing at Megure-keibu who was narrowing more his eyes. 

"I am guessing that was all that you wanted Hakuba-kun?"

A nod was given as an answer and he walked away with a wave. Now at the very least, he could tell that Chikage was really killed. Saguru hoped that at least this would make the magician move on.

It finally got revealed, yes Chikage was indeed murdered. Soon this story will end as well. Not sure when tho, as I am trying to write at least 4 more chapters but no promises. I hope you enjoyed it and see you all in the next chapter.~
