Sunrays were peaking through the windows of my temporary office, bathing the place in zones of light. I spun on the chair, observing the dust dancing through the air. Fleeting. Evanescent. Just as life. One moment you are here, one moment you are not.

Henry was there, at the border between life and Death, holding onto life with teeth and claws.

I had just came back from his room, where I had tried to suction his pleural spill, the fluid's stains on my coat the proves of that. Key word, I tried. It didn't go as planned. Now, he laid on the bed, with enough tranquilliser to sedate a family of elephants. I was going to hold my breath until he woke up and then....then we would see. There was no point in making plans ahead of time.

I was still spinning when someone knocked on the door; I stopped, placing my hands on the desk.

"Come in."

The door opened with a low shrill, revealing Hercules on the other side. He cautiously strode inside, eyeing the small room.

"Hi."

He closed the door behind him and I couldn't stop myself from noticing his muscles bulge with the action. We hadn't been alone together since the day of my Heat and now it was strange; there was an awkwardness in the air that was plain uncomfortable. I was noticing things that I shouldn't, such as the way his shirt stretched on his torso, as the inky strands on his forehead, as the lines of his lips...and the fact that it wasn't bothering me like before scared me. A lot.

I cleared my throat.

"Sit."

I gestured him to sit on the chair in front of the desk. He followed, the worn out leather creaking under his weight. Seconds passed, but he just sat there, staring at me with those deep pools of cobalt blue. It was unnerving. Especially because my stomach did a strange kind of flip.

"So..why are you here?"

Hercules shifted on the seat and a whiff of his scent reached my nostrils. My wolf immediately perked up from her slumber, eyeing the male in front of us with eyes full of interest.

"How's the pack member?"

I sighed.

"He could be better. I'm trying to help him but..I honestly don't know what to do. He's not responding to antibiotics as he should.."

Hercules didn't answer to that, but he kept staring at me. Huffing in annoyance, I rested my elbows on the desk, placing my face in the palms of my hands. Damned wolf, why did he have to be so intense?

"If only I could find something in the journals..damn, I really need those books," I muttered.

"That's one of the reasons why I am here, actually."

I peaked at him through my fingers.

"It is?"

He nodded and I removed my hands from my face, giving him my full attention. As if he didn't already. Weak. I was weak.
