CHAPTER 1 - Onions

"Anji...oh come on Anji?!"
Lucy stood up as she noticed me crying.

I am chopping all this onions, until I get tired crying. No ones gonna stop me.

"We're going to run out of onions! Anji! I am planning to make onion rings tomorrow."
Oh the better!

"I know that you cut up onions when you want to hide that you've been crying."
Agh! You know me too well. We're best friends for a reason, I guess?

"No! I'm just crying because of the onions! Nothing more, nothing less."
I beamed.

"What are you? Are you seriously proud that you cut all those onions? Don't smile while crying! You looked like a joke to me. Stop it!"
She looked like a boxer who will punch me anytime.

"Are you seriously crying because your food tasted off?"
She calmed herself and looked at me with those pity eyes.

"No! It tasted so different! I'm sure they forgot to put pepper! The moment the food was served. I know something smelled wrong.
I cannot smell the familiar scent of pepper. Lucy?! Paano nila nakalimutan ang paminta?"
Nagpaptuloy parin ako sa paghihiwa ng mga sibuyas.

"There's nothing we can do about it. Tapos na Anji! Busog parin naman tayo kahit walang pepper yung pagkain. Ano ka ba? Huminto ka na dyan. Naririndi na ako sayo ha? Gusto mong ikaw ang hiwain ko?!"

"Oo na. Tinatamad na rin naman akong maghiwa."
Mabilis akong umalis sa kusina.

"Aba aba! Walk out walk out ka na te? Anong plano mo rito aber? Ako pa ata ang pagliligpitin mo? Hiyang hiya nako sayo ha? Umayos ka!"
Malakas na sigaw niya habang nakataas ang kilay at nakatingin sa akin.

Sigaw ng sigaw. Akala naman nito nasa labas ako ng bahay para hindi siya marinig.

"Well, it's been a long evening. I'm going to bed--"
Hindi ko na tapos ang sasabihin ko ng hinila ako ni Lucy.

"How many pesos worth of onions did you just waste?! How are we going to eat all this onions? Before they go bad?"
sigaw nito sa harapan ko.

"You said you will make onion rings tomorrow? Then it's all set."
Nakangiti kong sabi.

"Ang dami dami nito!"
Turo niya sa mga hiniwa ko.

"Then, I'll make French onion soup? Omelette? Mirepoix? Or maybe a softrito?"

"Stop trying to hide with your big culinary words."

And that ends our onion fight...

Good morning Anji. Ang ganda ng umaga. Manang mana sayo.

"Lucy get up!"

Lumapit na ako kay Lucy at niyogyog siya.

Ang cute cute talaga ni Fries. Dapat kinalmot niya na lang si Lucy para magising.

"Lucy! I'm dead serious, you're going to be late."
Kinarga ko si fries at naupo sa kama ni Lucy.

"Hmmm. I'm never late."
At nagawa pa nitong magtago sa unan.

"Anjiiii!"
Napatayo naman siya.
Sa lakas ba naman ng hampas ko sa kanya ng unan. Ewan ko na lang.

"What?"
I asked innocently at inabutan ko siya ng coffee.

"Good morning, for good luck."
I added at ngumiti pa ako sa kanya.

"Thanks..."
She looked nervous as she sipped her coffee.
Napatingin naman siya sa cellphone niya.

"Ah crap! I'm going to be late!"
Mabilis naman siyang kumilos.
Tss. What did I say?

"I stayed late reading webtoon again. Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!"
Kumuha naman siya ng sandwich at kinagat ito. Nahirapan pa siyang suotin ang sapatos niya.

"Bye Anji."
Paalam nito habang kumakaway kaway pa.

"Hey! You forgot something!"
Pinakita ko sa kanya ang Yakult.

"Para everyday okay."
Dagdag ko pa. Binato ko sa kanya ang yakult at nasalo naman niya.

"HAHAHAHAHA."
Sabay pa kaming natawa.

"Thank you. I can't wait to read what you write."
She said saka tumakbo palabas ng Apartment.
