CHAPTER 10
By the time I came home my heart was turning in rapid circles and my stomach was in knots. I was grinning from ear to ear. But at the same time I was sad. It was all so mixed up and weird that I don't even know how to properly explain it.
My brothers Matt and David were sitting at the kitchen counter talking excitedly. Matt and David are fourteen year old, super, super smart, non-identical twins, but they pretty much act like they're the same person. Matt has dark brown hair that's thick and flopped a bit to one side. He was wearing his brown suit coat with a plain white T-shirt and red bowtie with brown dress pants. He hated wearing ties. (They always got in his way.) David has light brown hair that he messily spikes up and the front of his head. He sometimes wears rectangular glasses. He was wearing his blue suit coat and dark purple T- shirt with blue dress pants and his Converse.
They looked over at me as I got a class of water. David put on his glasses and stared at me, confused.
"What's gotten into you?" he asked.
"I haven't seen you this happy since you got your driver's license," Matt agreed.
I shrugged.
"I don't know, I'm just...happy I guess." I replied.
They shared sly looks at each other and then looked at me.
"Did you go out with a boy?" Matt asked.
David made kissy faces.
"No! We were just working on a project for English." I told them.
"So you did go out with someone!" they said.
"It's not called going out when you're working on a project, just more of a...get together I suppose."
"Sure, sure,"
I rolled my eyes and took a drink of water.
"So why are you dressed up?" I asked.
"We gave a presentation today. Right now we're just some work on how the time changes in space," David said.
"So like how traveling to Mars takes like, five years or something?" I asked.
"Exactly," he replied.
"It's very complicated." Matt agreed. "Do you want to see some of our report?"
"Uh, no thanks, I'll leaving the nerdy stuff to you guys." I replied.
They went back to their work and I went up to my room.
I immediately pulled out my phone and called Willow.
"And how's my love struck best friend doing?" she asked.
"I just rolled my eyes, thanks," I laughed.
"I know! So, how did your 'English project' go?"
"It was really nice. He bought me Starbucks." I replied.
"Such a gentleman!"
"I know right?"
"What exactly was it that you had to find out?" Willow asked.
"We had to find out the things that make us happy, sad, mad, etc. We also asked each other some questions about ourselves." I replied.
"So, what did you find out?"
"Well, the thing that makes him happiest is looking out at the stars at night," I said.
"Awww! How cute!"
"Yeah, his favorite color is this kinda light, navy blue and his favorite food is those fancy restaurant pizzas and root beer."
"That's not something you hear every day," Willow said.
