Chapter 9:
A New Family
"What?" Maks asked, his eyes widening at the news.
"I- I'm pregnant Maks." Meryl didn't know what to feel right now, excited? Thrilled? Scared? Right now she was too shocked to feel anything. Maks looked just as shocked as she felt, his eyes were round and he was staring at the pregnancy test Meryl held in her shaking hands. Maks breathed out a laugh and smiled. He put his hand slowly on Meryl's stomach and looked up into her eyes. Meryl smiled too, she was carrying Maks' child inside of her. They were going to have a baby! Oh my God, they were going to have a baby. Meryl lost her smile. She was going to be a mother and she wasn't even married yet!
"Meryl what's wrong?" Maks asked sounding concerned.
"I'm going to be a mom." Meryl whispered "I can't be a mom! I don't know how to be! And what are my parents going to think?! We aren't even married!" Meryl's voice was getting louder and louder and she was getting upset. Meryl started walking in circles. Then she said softer "Maks I'm not ready for this." She could feel her eyes tearing. Maks took Meryl in his arms and gave her a big hug.
"Meryl, calm down. You're getting worked up over nothing." he said
Meryl pushed out of his embrace.
"Nothing!? This is a baby we're talking about Maks. This is far from nothing!" Meryl felt the warm tears trickling down her cheeks. Maks came closer again and cupped one side of Meryl's face in one hand and wiped away her tears with the other hand.
"Meryl, you are not in this alone. I would never let you face something this big by yourself. You are going to be a great mother. With me by your side, forever." Maks fell to one knee and held Meryl's hand in both of his. He looked into her eyes and reached into his pocket and took out a little box. Meryl gasped, was he...?
"Meryl Elizabeth Davis, will you marry me?" Maks asked, opening the box to show a beautiful diamond engagement ring. Meryl couldn't help the tears flowing out of her eyes. Maks just proposed! She couldn't believe this was happening.
"Yes." Meryl whispered "Yes! Of course I'll marry you!" Meryl jumped up and down while Maks put the ring on her finger and jumped into his arms when he stood. She kissed him hard and long. They lost each other in the kiss, feeling each other's passion and lust. Then Meryl thought of something and broke the kiss, breathing as heavily as Maks was.
"Wait..." she said catching her breathe. "You're not just marrying me because of the baby right?" she asked
Maks looked shocked
"Of course not! Meryl," Maks cupped Meryl's face in his hands " I love you." he kissed Meryl again making her lose what she was going to say in response. She stopped the kiss again.
"What about the baby?" Meryl gasped
"What about him?" Maks asked, Meryl laughed, him?
"Him huh?" She laughed again,
"Yes, him. The gender of my son." Maks said
"You seem so sure it's going to be a boy. What if it's a girl?" Meryl asked.
"Then we will have a beautiful baby girl but I doubt it will be." Meryl was a getting a little irritated by his confidence.
"How do you know?" Meryl snapped which took Maks by surprise
"Meryl I don't know for sure, I'm just guessing. Calm down." Maks rubbed Meryl's arm to reassure her that he didn't mean to get her upset.
"I'm sorry." Meryl leaned into Maks while he wrapped his arms around her. "I was going to say, what should we tell our parents?" she sounded worried
"We will tell them of our marriage then of your pregnancy." Maks said, now rubbing Meryl's back to stifle her worried thoughts.
"You want o make it like I got pregnant after the wedding." Meryl didn't say it as a question but Maks answered it.
"Yes. Isn't that what you would prefer them to think?" Maks asked
"Yes it is but that doesn't make it right." Meryl said looking at Maks' chest. Right now she just wanted to rip his shirt right off his body. "I don't like lying." Meryl whispered
"I know it seems wrong but we technically aren't lying. We are just holding the information back from them until a later date." Maks grinned which made Meryl laugh
"Fine we'll go with Maks logic on this one."
"Maks logic? I like it. You will learn that it's the most logical logic you can follow." Maks said with a huge smile on his face.
"Well oh wise one who should we tell first?" Meryl said already knowing the answer,
"Babushka." Maks said, using the Russian word for Grandma, at the same time Meryl said "Your Grandma" they both laughed and went to go visit Sofiya Chmerkovskiy. Val was most likely with her so they could kill two birds with one stone.
Thankfully Val was with his grandmother so Meryl and Maks didn't have to make another trip to tell him too.
"Hey bro." Val said when Maks walked in the house. He gave Maks one of those half hugs that men do to look cool. Then he went to hug Meryl with a big smile on his face "Meryl its great to see you again. How are you and my brother doing?" Val wiggled his eyebrows at them Maks shoved him lightly
"Where's babushka?" he asked walking into the living room with Meryl by his side.
"Maksim! Внук" Maks' grandmother came rushing out of the kitchen to hug and kiss Maks "Как вы внук?" Maks' Grandmother was so excited to see Maks she barely noticed Meryl was there. But Meryl didn't care she didn't want to disrupt his grandmother's happiness. Val turned to Meryl so he could translate what she was saying.
"BНук means grandson in Russian. She just asked him how he's doing." Val said
"Babushka, y нас есть, что вам рассказать." Maks said something in Russian and motioned to Meryl. His grandma finally acknowledged her.
"Meryl! So nice see you!" she exclaimed with her heavy Russian accent breaking up the words and hugged Meryl.
"You too!" Meryl said
"you have to tell her something?" Val asked Meryl going back to what Maks just said.
"Oh yea you too." Meryl looked to Maks then back to Val. "We're getting married!" she cried. Val's eyes widened and so did his smile. He picked up Meryl and swung her around.
"Finally! Congratulations! I can't wait for you to be part of the Chmerkovskiy family. You were already." Val put Meryl down and she could see that Maks translated what she said to his grandmother because she was squeezing him and kissing his cheeks repetitively. She squealed and came over to hug Meryl while Val hugged and patted Maks on the back.
"You did good man. Congrats."
"Thank you. I am very happy as well." Maks said with a huge smile and looked over at Meryl and his grandmother.
"Ура ура!" His grandmother cheered then turned to Meryl "Ты моя внучка сейчас!" and hugged Meryl very tightly
"She said you are her granddaughter now." Maks said smiling at two of the most important women in his life. If his mother were here it would've been perfect. Meryl was fighting off tears of joy for being welcomed into this family with such excitement. She already thought of Val as her brother and she was so glad to be warmly welcomed by Maks' sweet grandmother it brought tears to her eyes and she would've started crying in front of everyone if Maks didn't speak up first.
"Well we just came by to tell you two, we have many others to tell so we better get going. Goodbye ." Maks said and bent down to kiss his grandmother. Meryl hugged Val goodbye and kissed babushka on the cheek.
When Meryl and Maks got in the car Meryl leaned over and kissed Maks on the cheek.
"Thank you." Her voice cracked. She leaned into him and cried the joyful tears she felt gathering in her eyes just moments ago. Meryl's tears finally stopped falling and there was a peaceful silence in the car while Maks drove the rest of the way home.
Meryl and Maks took a couple of days to tell everyone they wanted that they were getting married yet nobody knew about the baby. Meryl told her family and met up with Charlie to tell him. Maks told the rest of his family and both sides were incredibly happy for the two of them. Although most of them didn't even know they were dating because they had been hiding it from everyone. Maks had an idea for a wedding date too: Thanksgiving.
"Thanksgiving is so close though, are we going to be able to plan a wedding in such short time?" Meryl said pacing the floor of their bedroom. Maks lay in bed already waiting for her to join him and sleep. It was 11:00pm when Maks gave Meryl his big idea for a date.
"Why is three months not enough?" Maks asked
"No! its not nearly enough! We need to tell the church, send save the dates, plan the party, book a hall, flowers, cake, decorations, pictures, A dress! Every detail! People spend up to a year planning a wedding Maks!" Meryl was breathing heavy now just thinking about how messed up the wedding could be if they didn't have enough time to plan every detail to perfection.
"Meryl calm down. Do you really need to spend a whole year on something as simple as us uniting for a lifelong time of happiness together?" Maks said. Since when was he the sensible one? Meryl walked over to the bed and laid on top of Maks.
"All I want is you, forever." she said and kissed him and Maks swung her onto the bed so he was on top of her.
"And all I want is you, and the beautiful girl growing inside of you." Maks said as he lightly rubbed Meryl's stomach.
"You said girl." Meryl smiled "Why'd you change your mind?" she asked.
"Well as much as I would like a son that took after me, I would love a daughter that took after her beautiful mother in all the amazing ways in which I love you. So I can have the pleasure of loving two of you." Meryl didn't know what to say. Everyday Maks found a way to surprise her and make her love him even more. She kissed him with everything she had and more...
Meryl woke up to a sick feeling in her stomach. She tried to ignore it and just rolled onto her side. It got worse and it was coming up. She was going to throw up. She ran to the bathroom ignoring that her clothes were still on the floor next to her bed rather than on her. When reached the bathroom she lifted the lid of the toilet and puked her guts out. She heard rushing footsteps and then Maks was beside her rubbing her bare shaking back.
"Meryl what's wrong?" Maks asked concern and fear in every word
"I Don't-" then Meryl realized what was happening and moaned. "Morning sickness." she leaned into the toilet and realized that her and Maks were very underdressed, but at least Maks had the luxury of putting his boxers on. Meryl blushed and covered her chest with her arms.
"Can you get me a blanket?" Maks gave her a knowing smile and left to get her a blanket. He came back and placed the blanket over Meryl's shoulders while she barfed into the bowl again. Meryl lifted her head and held the blanket tightly around her.
"Thank you. But you shouldn't have to see this." Meryl said still shaking.
"Yes I do. I am your fiancé and you are not facing this alone. This is just the beginning of it." And Meryl knew Maks was right, this was just the beginning..."A Meryl and Maks Fanfic" is copyright 2014 @Maksyl18, all rights reserved.
