Tearing love apart

Maks
"A girl! We're having a girl! Oh my God Maks!" Meryl said and Maks came over to hug her tightly.
"Yes congratulations on your baby." the doctor said and cleaned Meryl's stomach " Mr. uh, may I call you Maks?" the doctor asked.
"Yes." Maks said suspiciously.
"Maks, may I have a word with you?" the doctor asked.
"Um sure." Maks looked at Meryl who seemed just as confused as he was. "I'll be right back." He said to her and left the room with the doctor. They stopped in the hallway just outside of the room where nobody was around.
"Maks, how old are you?" the doctor asked.
"Uh 34. What does this have to do with -"
"And Meryl? How old is she?" the doctor interrupted.
"27, but I don't understand-" the doctor interrupted him again.
"So between you and Meryl, there is a 7 year difference. Interesting." Maks was getting angry and didn't like what the doctor was accusing him of.
"What is that suppose to mean?" Maks asked angrily, the doctor seemed unaffected to Maks' anger.
"Just that is it so rare now a days to have a marriage when the spouse is so much older. Are you aware of protection Maks? Because I can guess that you did not mean for this to have happened. I can also guess that your "wife" was pregnant before the wedding and to cover it up you proposed and got married. Now if you were just smart enough to use a condom, none of this would have-" it was Maks' turn to interrupt and he took a step closer to the doctor, rage all over his face.
"Now you listen to me, you do not know me, I married my wife because I love her and this baby may have been a mistake but it was a good mistake we are very happy about her. And it is not unusual to have a relationship where the spouse is older so you should just do your job and keep your opinions to yourself Doctor." Maks spit the last word and went inside the room to get Meryl and leave.

Meryl
Meryl didn't know what the doctor said to Maks but whatever it was it wasn't good because when Maks came back into the room he was pissed.
"Meryl we're leaving." He took her hand and pulled her out of the room. When they got into their car they just sat there. Meryl was staring wide eyed at Maks in confusion. Maks was so angry he was gripping the steering wheel so hard his knuckles were turning white.
"Maks?" Meryl asked softly, scared that Maks might explode if she pushed toO hard. "What happened Maks?" she asked. Maks sat there a little longer then let out a heavy breath and looked at Meryl.
"It was nothing he's just a ..." Meryl's eyes widened as Maks cursed the doctor out in Russian
"Maks! What did he say?" Meryl asked, Maks sighed.
"He was asking about our ages and that this was a mistake and I'm too old for you and I should've been smart about sex so this wouldn't have happened. He thinks you are a child compared to me and I just used you and married you to cover up your pregnancy!" Maks yelled and his grip on the wheel tightened.
"He said that?" Meryl asked with disbelief.
"Well I paraphrased but yeah that was the gist of it." Maks was clearly angry and now so was Meryl.
"How dare he! He has no right to tell us about our relationship! Why does he care? What does this-" Meryl stopped for a minute to catch her breath, "Maks if you don't start driving now I'm going to jump out of the car and give that doctor a piece of my mind. And I promise it wont be pretty." Maks smiled a little and started the car.
"As much as I would like to see that happen, I just want to get you home."
They were weirdly quiet when they got home. Maks didn't seem to want to talk about what the doctor said and Meryl respected that so she left it alone for now. She didn't want to stir up bad feelings between them when they just got home from their honeymoon and now have knowledge that they were having a baby girl. A girl. Meryl sat down on the edge of their bed and started to laugh a little and then cry. Maks came over and sat next to her. He pulled her closer to him and wrapped her in his arms.
"We're having a girl." Maks said, guessing what she was crying about.
"Yeah. Maks I am so happy." Meryl twisted around so she could wrap her arms around Maks' neck. Meryl clung to Maks and cried joyous tears into his shoulder. "This is amazing!" she said, Maks laughed and nodded his head into her shoulder in agreement. They hugged each other tightly then Meryl lifted herself enough so she could press her lips to Maks'.
"Meryl." Maks said over and over again. Meryl rested her head on his now wet shoulder and fell asleep to the lullaby of Maks saying her name.
The next two weeks went by so fast because all that was on Meryl's mind was the baby and Christmas because that was now only a week away. Unfortunately for Maks, and Meryl felt really bad for him, Meryl's emotions were getting the best of her. She was getting angry and crying a lot and Maks was trying to help but sometimes it made it worse and she was so grateful to have someone like Maks to stick with her and not get mad but the week before Christmas was the worst because Meryl got so aggravated trying to figure out what to get Maks. Her mood swings got way out of control. She was yelling at her computer when Maks walked in. He sighed.
"Meryl what's wrong now?" he asked, he looked tired but you know what? So was Meryl.
"You want to know what's wrong? This stupid computer doesn't have what I'm looking for! I'm going to tell you cause I don't care anymore. I cant find you a Christmas gift! And that makes me the worst wife ever I know but I don't care anymore because its not my fault! Blame the computer!" Meryl yelled and slammed the laptop closed. Maks laughed a little at the silliness of this outburst.
"Meryl you don't have to try so hard I don't care if you get me a sock for Christmas, all I want is-"
"Me. Yeah I know. Well Maks I cant give you me! You can't own me! I am not a gift." Meryl said fiercely
"Mer, that's not what-" Maks tried to explain but Meryl wasn't done
"Why do you even want me? Really? It's just because I'm giving you a baby right? That's the only reason isn't it!? The Doctor was right you are too old for me, we shouldn't be together. The baby is the only reason why you married me, so he was right." Meryl rambled on with anything she could think of because she was so angry and she didn't know why.
"Now wait a minute. Do NOT bring him into this!" Maks yelled his face red. Then his anger slipped away as he realized that he just yelled at Meryl. "Meryl, I-"
"No let's bring him up. This is a fight, no reason not to get it all out. I mean everything he said was true. We have 7 years between us! That's a long time Maks. People don't do that anymore. You know I use to think older men would be more experienced and more intelligent about certain stuff. But that doctor opened my eyes. You weren't smart, you took advantage of me and now I'm stuck carrying a baby inside me! How could you do this to me?" Meryl screamed and now she was crying angry tears and she wiped furiously at them. Maks looked crushed.
"Meryl you know none of that is true, please. I love you." Maks tried to plead with his eyes. "I understand what your -"
"You have no clue what I'm going through! You don't understand! Maks that's the problem! You will never understand. You cant help me at all! You can just stand there and take whatever I scream at you next!" Meryl said matter of factly.
"Then help me to understand Meryl. I know this isn't you talking you are just upset because the baby." Maks tried
"Don't tell me what I'm upset about you have no idea! You think you know me so well but you don't Maks! Your aren't in my body right now you cant tell me what I'm feeling." Meryl said and pushed Maks away. He stumbled backwards towards the door.
"Meryl, don't." Maks pleaded.
"You don't own me! Just go. I don't want to look at you. Leave!" Meryl yelled and pushed Maks again. He didn't fight it but his face showed how crushed he really was by this.
"Okay." He said softly "you need time to cool off." Maks opened the door but stopped and turned towards Meryl again "I truly love you Meryl." And he left. Meryl sank to her knees and stared at the door. Maks... her mind whispered while she broke down into tears.

Double update because my friend was too busy to write last weekends chapter.
I'm not sure if you guys know, but my best friend writes this fanfic for me and I post it. So I didn't know any of this was going to happen in the chapter. I'm on FaceTime with her, when she sent it I saw the title and I was like "I'm not reading that. You're gonna ruin my life". Lucky me I had to read it 3 times for editing and stuff. I'm emotionally unstable right now. She doesn't tell me what she plans to do in each chapter so I didn't know about this. She won't tell me what's going to happen next, I wanna cry.

We're hoping to have the next chapter up on Christmas, if not, this Sunday like normal.
