Chapter 27- Distraction

" There a daycare center around here?" I asked, loading my revolver, my swords sheathed on my right hip.

I had exited my Gigai, figuring it would make it easier to move around easier.

I left the supply box sitting there while Bob gave me directions to one.

" I'm going." Aubrey insisted as I put a backpack on my shoulders.

" I only need to see it first, then I can teleport back and forth," I replied. " Stay here, I mean it. If you don't you'll get infected and die, the green flu is airborne, any human who breathes it will die."

Kyle moved the booth he had blocking the door as I obliterated all of the infected with a blast of my flames. I seriously hope I don't run out of energy.

I darted down the road and when I got to the city, the only thing I could hear was the infected screaming, the hospital burning down.

I slid down the sandy cliff and entered the house, killing the Runners and the Common Infected that were in there with the hunting knife that was in the supply box, clearing the place of every supply I could find.

While scoping out the house next door, I heard a child crying, along with a Witch.

I creped towards the crying child, and gently picked her up as the Witch continued her behavior inches away from us.

" Mommy." She cried.

I hushed her and teleported back to the diner.

I sat her down as she started clutching onto my neck. " Mommy, don't leave."

" I'll be back in a blink, be good for your big sister," I said as Audrey walked over to keep her busy, then I teleported back into the house that had the Witch in it. I made work of her fast and gathered all the supplies.

I continued this routine until I reached the daycare, using my flames to clear the building.

I know if I ran into any child infected that I wouldn't be able to deal with them.

I got lucky in the powdered milk, clothing, and dippers area then appeared back for the night.

As Charlie took care of little  John Constantine, I found the girl I rescued snuggled up with Aubrey, asleep.

She needed a distraction from all this, I know she did. Both of them did.

While Percy and Bob started on Dinner, an uneasy feeling hit me, along with the feeling that someone was watching me.

I located them and saw a pair of deep red eyes staring back at me.

The uneasy feeling changed to heartwarming as they disappeared.

The hell.
