SIERRA
It is Sunday evening when we finally reach the gates of the training territory.
The place looks... unreal.
We are in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by silence so thick it presses against my ears. A massive forest stretches behind the training school, dark and endless, and beyond that—jagged mountain ranges rise like ancient sentinels guarding whatever secrets lie within.
We're standing at the entrance, yet we can't see anything inside.
Not the buildings.
Not the grounds.
Nothing.
I frown slightly.
What exactly happens in this place?
Do they brainwash us against human societies? I wonder, a ridiculous thought popping into my head.
I chuckle softly at my own joke, but quickly cover it with a cough when Alexandria shoots me a sharp glare.
We arrived here almost an hour ago, yet the guards at the gate haven't allowed us inside. They told us we'd be granted entry only when someone from within the training school comes to receive us.
Which is... unsettling.
We're standing here like intruders, watched closely by armed guards who haven't said a word since we arrived.
"Why are we being told to wait here?" Alexandria whines suddenly. "Can't we wait inside? This is uncomfortable. We look like guinea pigs being observed."
I roll my eyes.
Some things never change.
"One of the elders' apprentices will come to receive you," Delta Alex replies calmly. "You'll be given a form. Fill it truthfully. It will be used for your evaluation training."
He gestures ahead, and my attention snaps to a man walking toward us.
Man—not boy.
He has a broad frame, powerful shoulders, and a presence that demands attention even from a distance. His walk is controlled, purposeful. This isn't a trainee.
After a hushed conversation between him and Delta Alex, the apprentice nods. Delta Alex turns to us, his gaze sharp.
Be alert. Mingle with other pack members, his voice sounds in my mind—a final telepathic warning.
Then he shifts smoothly into his wolf form and disappears into the forest, heading back toward our pack lands.
Just like that, we're alone.
The apprentice hands each of us a booklet without introducing himself.
I flip through it.
Name.
Parents' names.
Parents' rank.
Pack.
Age.
Hobbies.
Mental and psychic abilities.
Shifting speed.
Combat strength.
I pause when I read a clause stating that the information will only be used for evaluation purposes and accessed solely by the council elders.
Only then do I begin filling it out.
I finish last.
Alexandria rolls her eyes dramatically.
I ignore her and hand my booklet to the apprentice. He doesn't even acknowledge me.
"From today onward," he says coldly, "you are no longer Samara pack wolves. You are first-year trainee students. You will address all senior wolves as Sir or Ma'am, regardless of rank or lineage. Alpha-born or not. Is that clear?"
