Sky's POV
We eventually made it back to the base, tired, soaking wet, but triumphant.
Mitch had gone back to get Shane's body (A/N: that felt so weird to type for some reason) saying he didn't want to just leave him there.
Brotato and Red had sunk, and try as we might, we couldn't find them.
We were silent when we pulled ourselves up on the beach right next to the base. Ty's hand was bleeding even worse now; he was holding on to the emerald shards as if he was scared Darklox would escape from them.
Who knows? Maybe he could.
We walked through the gates, and were met with a cheer from a recruit in front of us.
"They're back! They're here! They made it!"
The whole of the army that Darklox had seemingly vaporized had instead returned to the base, all safe.
It felt like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders when I saw all the recruits, none hurt.
"I'm going to go find the Brogers." Shelby said, her voice small.
We understood what she meant. She really meant: "I'm going to go break the news to the Brogers."
"I'll go with you." A smiled. "A little moral support never hurt anyone."
"Thanks." Shelby gave a small smile, and they both walked off to find the Brogers.
"I'll take Rose back to her tent. You coming with, Darkclaw?" Jason asked.
"Yeah, sure." She said, and they both left, on the way to Rose's tent.
I saw Lily and Josh, and I felt as though my tongue was stuck to the roof of my mouth. How was I supposed to tell them that their sister was dead?
I guess Ssundee was good at reading expressions, because he said, "You know, I'll tell them, if you can't."
"I don't think I can." I answered, and he nodded.
"Alright. I'll do it." I watched as he walked over, and I could see tears forming in Lily's eyes, and Josh's face falling. I watched as they both nodded sadly.
I felt awful.
"It wasn't your fault, you know." Quentin said. "You did everything you could."
"Come on, we've got to find something that'll be strong enough to hold Darklox." Ty said, and I gave him a questioning look.
"Aren't the emeralds enough?"
"I don't know. If he gets out, I think it'll be best if there's something else blocking him." He answered.
"What sort of thing were you thinking, Ty?" Jerome asked.
"Well, I was looking at the emeralds, and I think they work because they seem to be enchanted."
"So...enchanted iron box?" Mitch suggested, and Ty shrugged.
"Sounds good to me." He responded.
So we went to the house, and using most of our lapis, we enchanted enough iron to build a small box big enough to fit the emerald shards, along with a lock and key.
"There." Quentin said when we had finished.
Ty cautiously opened up the box, and slid the emeralds inside, quickly shutting it and locking it.
We all stood in silence, staring at the little box that now meant so much.
"We...we really did it." Jerome said. "We beat him."
"The squids are destroyed, and Darklox is locked up." I said.
Mitch smiled. "It's like we're in a cheesy fairytale."
"I don't know, Mitch. Our story isn't cheesy in any way possible." Quentin grinned.
"No way." Ssundee agreed.
"I think we've done alright here, don't you guys think so?" Ty said.
"Yeah." I said.
"Absoulutley." Mitch agreed.
"Yup." Jerome chimed in.
"So...now what?" Ssundee asked.
"I say we put this on a shelf, and go celebrate our victory with some cake!" Jerome smiled.
We all cheered. I put the box on a shelf, and we left to go get Jason, and to go get some cake.
Because, hey, we kind of deserved it.
