it is in the middle of fall and valerie decided to show off and wear a black skirt at her waist. she wasn't going anywhere special, she just wanted to show the other girls up for all being basic and wearing sweatpants, even though, if she was home alone, she would have them on just as often as they do.
she would gain looks from wearing a skirt, just because she got bruises every other week and she had her reasons, she was just a quiet one and never told anyone anything about them.
val sighed as she bumped her legs into a corner of a building (yes, she's clumsy) and it hurt more than usual because of her five purple and pink bruises across her legs.
"nice bruises." a deep, male, voice was heard as she was moving her hair from her face and biting her lip, she honestly wanted to cry, but she wouldn't let herself because she was tougher than that. also, there was a guy there and who wants to fuck up with a guy that could be really hot?
she looked up and stared at his torso for a moment, then at his eyes, like a proper human should look at a guy. even if they seem to be hot.. like, everywhere.
"nice face." she blurt out, even though he must've been used to people saying his face was nice, because oh, it was nice. "holy shit, i'm sorry. i didn't mean to actually say that since i barely know you and stuff."
"its okay, valerie." he said and gave her a cheeky smile. that made him look asian, which was not cute on him. "how did you get those bruises?" he asked and stuck out a hand so she could stand up straight, but she wanted to slap him because he knew her name.
"how the fuck do you know my name?" she said and lightly grabbed his hand and shook her head at him. she felt like he could've been stalking her forever now and she just never saw her shadow.
"ashton irwin." he said and her eyes lit up, that was her older brother and they probably knew each other, her brother is just too much of an ass to let her know him. "he's told me that your name is valerie, you're skinny, kind of pale, get bruises, and that you are almost eighteen."
all of that was true, valerie just didn't want to admit it. so she stood there, awkwardly playing with the bottom of her skirt.
"where were you heading, anyways?" he asked and ran a hand through his dark brown (almost black) hair with an obviously grown out blonde streak, poofy hair.
"home." she said and watched him, their connected eyes again. "ashton told me to come home since he didn't want anything happening to me." she explained, since it was going to rain, hard, soon.
"i see. over-protective, huh?" he asked and val simply rolled her eyes, then whispering the word yes, sadly. "since i should be a good friend to ash, i guess i could drive you."
"that would be magnificent." she spoke in her light australian accent. it was never as strong as most of her friends, but it was an accent.
!
they walked to calums car hand in hand since valerie was still hurting from her fall.
cal decided to be a douche and not open the door for her, but it was fine, she was barely used to it anyways.
silence filled the car as val took out her phone and unlocked her password, putting in 1994 (only because that was the year her lovely brother was born in), then scrolling through her music.
"hey," she finally spoke, just as he started driving, "can i play some music? i would rather not listen to all about that bass because that's fucking shit."
calum laughed and she watched his facial expressions change from serious to the cutest thing ever in 0.5 seconds. "as long as it isn't more shit radio music." he told her and glanced at her, a small smile across his face. which was really cute.
"ashton hasn't told you i don't listen to that shit? hm, i guess he isn't that good of describing the people he loves." she joked as she plugged in her phone to the aux cable and began playing if you can't hang by sleeping with sirens.
"you would be good with my friend luke," he said and she wanted to giggle, just because she had liked luke a while back and they were currently close to being the best fucking friends ever, "you guys are similar."
"i know luke. if you're talking about hemmings." she told him and hummed along quietly before speaking up again. "he's ashtons friend who comes over a lot. i liked him a while ago and we're really good friends now. so don't try putting me on a blind date with him."
valerie wouldn't of minded going on a date with luke, though. she could have feelings deep down that she doesn't know about but luke is dating someone anyways, and that would not be friend like if she tried to mess his relationship with her up.
"hemmo 96." calum said and laughed, doing the face that made val feel all fuzzy inside. "i wasn't going to put you on a date, i would only do that if you didn't know the guy or if he's single. i don't fuck up relationships."
that was a slight lie, since he had fucked up relationships, but they weren't all his. he wasn't the kind to go around and just fiddle with other peoples relationships, of any kind, really.
they didn't speak after that. all they did was talk about what song she should play next and how horrible she sings, but calum would always try to convince her she was lovely, because thats what he thought of her. just not in that way. not quite yet.
