Mai had overslept again.
Her dreams have been getting weirder and weirder, and she keeps waking up late. This time though, she was late for work, and she knew Naru will be furious. As she shoved the last piece of toast into her mouth and yanked on her green hoodie, she was thinking about her dream. Should I tell Naru? Nah.... well... if it ever seems important, I'll do it. She was forced to skip her bike and run instead, because her front tire was busted. As she sprinted down the alley-way, she was curious about what the next case will be.
Reaching the office twenty minutes late, Mai burst through the door.
"Mai, make some tea." Naru said, not even phased by her heavy breathing and messy clothes.
"What, no 'Why are you late, Mai?', or 'How are you Mai?', or even a simple 'Hey Mai, glad to see you're okay and not unconcious!?" Mai retorted.
"Unconcious?" Naru said with a smirk. "Tell me Mai, you didn't oversleep again, did you?"
"I'm sorry, I can't here you over the sound of me making your tea!" She said mockingly, but she was glad that he didn't seem to mind her being slightly late.
"Lin, Akayo, and Monk are running some errands for me. And John and Masako don't return from Australia untill next Tuesday, so for now it's just you and me." Naru said, "Oh, and we have a confrence with Mr. Schmidt."
Mai nodded. She remembered him. He was a friend of Monk's who works at a pizzaria somewhere, she wasn't really listening to that part of the conversation. Mostly, she paid attention to the creepy case he had prepared for them. If Naru said that we'd be having a confrence, than that must mean that he was intrested in the case. Apparently, Mr. Schmidt moved to Japan, and got a job at a pizzaria, and he claimes that the animatronics in the place are haunted and trying to kill him. Mai had missed most of the information, so she was glad she would have a chance to catch up now.
"Can you re-explain everything to me?" Mai pleaded, pouring the tea into two cups and bringing the tray to Naru's desk.
Naru rolled his eyes before explaining, "Mike Schmidt said he had moved to Japan to visit his sick sister, and got a job. While working, he claimed that the animatronics were possesed and trying to stuff him into a costume, which would ultimatly kill him. He had said that it took him five nights of this insanity to work up the courage and call us to explain."
"Yikes!" Mai said with empathy, "That's not gonna be fun. If they were that active towards a newcomer, I wonder how they'd respond to us? Oh, and by the way, where does he work?"
"He said it was a children's resturant. Freddy Fasbears, I believe?" Naru said indifferently.
Mai's eyes widdened in horrific shock. No. No I- I- it can't be! Nonononono! She felt as if her heart had sunk to her feet, and her hands shook uncontrolably as she was slowly processing the fact that Naru was gonna take a case there and she'd have to go back there. She could hear that song, the song they constantly sang. What was once a funny and addicting song now turned her blood cold.
"Mai!? Are you alright?" Naru said, concern breaking his usually unemotional mask.
"I-duh-I- I'm fine...." Mai stuttered, before mentally kicking herself.
"Are you sure?" Naru said softly.
"Yeah. Just fine."
