Trigger Warning: Mentions of suicide, child abuse, csa. (but I'll try to keep it discreet as possible.)

Before the introduction of the third fish in the heroine's tank, Clay Yoshioka, it is crucial to understand the flow of the novel's story first.
The novel is about a magical girl named Cassandra Adeline, not much of her backstory was stated in the book because the novel started when she arrived in the Academy at the age of 19.
The students hated her because despite having a rather low upbringing, their teachers adored her for of her rare light magic.
She first met the Crown Prince in the Academy's Alchemy Competition. She won the first place by making a healing elixir that was said to be so difficult to do that even the greatest scholars fail to perfect it.
The Crown Prince's interest was piqued by her skills and intellect so he asked her to become the Vice President of their Student Council in order to keep her within his sight as often as possible, and also to be able to make use of her skills for the improvement of the whole student body, which she agreed to in a heartbeat.
Because they were always together, the Crown Prince started to see her other sides as well. In the book, she was described as a compassionate, intelligent, and adorable lady.
During that timeline, she met the second part of her reverse harem. It was Lancelot Black. They met in the Clarimières Kingdom when she went there to get some rare herbs that only grows in a country protected by dark magic.
Lancelot is the strongest knight of the Kingdom, he was respected by nobility but he hated them in return. He hates anyone with a high status actually, that became one of the reasons why he got along with Cassandra easily. Because she wasn't born from nobility, and even if she had become a noble when she was adopted by a noble family, she didn't turn haughty like others in her situation.
They first became friends but after opening up to Cassandra on why he hates high ranking officials and nobles, the heroine's gentle comfort made him fall in love with her. Lancelot, then, decided to go to enroll in Lethicia Academy to get closer with Cassandra more.
Then finally, Clay Yoshioka. He's the fruit of an affair between a prostitute and a high ranking official in their country. He grew up in a prostitute house without a proper guardian, that is because when his father abandoned him and his mother, his mother killed herself out of too much despair.
He was raised by the madame in the house with love and care, but what the madame didn't know was whenever she goes out of the house, the other prostitutes ties up Clay in an abandoned room only to be assaulted by their drunken sadistic costumers whom they didn't want to accompany. They were jealous of the madame's affection towards him so they resorted to their own wicked ways.
Clay didn't dare to tell it to the madame of the house because he's afraid that it would worsen her depleting health. So to protect himself, he resorted to training both magic and physical aspects of him. That's where he got his broad and masculine physique.
When he turned 15, he acquired enough skills to protect his remaining dignity, he was happy when he successfully exercised his very first act of self-defense. But just when he was about to tell it to the madame who raised him, he was informed that she had died from a long term illness.
He was left without a guardian, some volunteered to take him in but after experiencing the hardship in the hands of other people, he decided to avoid getting adopted by enrolling himself in the Lethicia Academy.
That's where he met Cassandra.
He didn't think much of his past experiences of abuse as he grew up. He was gifted with a strong mental strength to be able to treat it as mildly as possible. But the mind of a human person is a traitor.
He still sometimes experience nightnares from the incident, but the worst thing he got from it is a severe case of mysophobia. It's actually a fear of germs, but people with that phobia also fears being touched because they think that touch spreads contamination and uncleanliness.
He hated being touched and vice versa, not because he's afraid that other people may contaminate him but rather, he views himself as someone dirty that he became afraid of tainting other people.
No one thought that he has a phobia. They just thought that he was snob because he refused to be touched, nor would he willingly touch anyone or anything from other people.
Cassandra was the only person who understood him. She was the only one who didn't force him to do the things he's uncomfortable with. His trust towards the heroine bloomed until he was finally able to hug her, until he finally gets freed from the cage that was straining him in his whole life.
That's why he decided that even when the heroine didn't love him. He will still remain by her side and be of use to her as long as the gods bless him with another day in his life.
