Sahara's POV
"So how was your trip?"
"Long, but it was good. I'm really happy to be here."
"I'm really happy you're here too..."
"Uhm, your parents, they're really nice. Are they always that smiley? And serious all at once?" He asked confused.
"Oh yeah, my moms always laughing and my dad well, he's my dad you know. I'm his little girl so, that's pretty much it. Is that... okay?"
"Oh yeah of course, I totally get it. It's his job, I'd get like that too if a guy that had fallen in love with my sister came to visit her too." I stopped walking and looked at him.
"You fell in love with me?"
"Well I traveled pretty far so if I didn't, it'd be kind of weird wouldn't it?" He chuckled lightly. "Look Sari, I really like you and I'd like to be your suitor... and I'm willing to wait for however long you need to figure your stuff out—"
"What stuff?"
"Well you're just now turning 15, you've got to choose, you can either come back to the north with me, or stay here and rule Agrabah. I mean that's if we end up marrying if course. But you have three years to make your choice."
I could feel my hands getting shaky. "Three years?"
"I mean yeah, when you turn 18. Isn't that how it is here?"
"Oh, I guess, uhm will you excuse me for just a moment I need too... I need to talk to my mother for a minute. You can walk around if you want, Hakim can assist you if you need anything." Quickly I ran inside and bumped into Ali.
"Sari watch it!"
"Sorry Ali, wheres mom?"
"I don't know the last I heard she went up to her old room, if she isn't there then I have no idea."
"Okay thanks!" Going upstairs I rushed up to my moms old bedroom. It'd been ages since I'd stood in front of that door, it use to seem so much bigger. Softly I gave it a push as I knocked on it with my other hand.
"Who is it?" My mom asked looking up.
"It's— it's me."
"Oh hi my love. What are you doing up here you should be with Amir!" She smiled at me.
I sat on her bed. "I just, I—I need a minute."
My mom dropped her book and approached me with a worried face. "Is everything alright, you look pale, Sari."
"I only have three years. And then I have no choice I don't—"
"Three years?"
"Three years and then I have to rule or leave."
"Rule or leave? Sahara honey you're not making any sense."
"Amir said that I have three years to choose if I wanna rule here or get married and go up north with him. What does that mean?"
"I mean you can get married once you're 18 if you wish to do so, you know that. And about moving up north with him.... I wouldn't mention that to your father he'd faint." My mom giggled as she sat next to me.
"I'm serious mom. Would I really have to leave?"
"I mean it depends sweetheart. Your grandmother did, and she came here to rule with your grandfather."
"So I don't necessarily have to be Sultan of Agrabah."
"No, not necessarily, you could be queen somewhere else. But of course you're our first born it'd be more fitting to have you as our Sultan instead."
"But if Amir said..."
"Then that means he wants to rule his own kingdom. And if you wanted to rule your own then... I don't think you marrying would be the most fitting thing. But then again you are only just 15, I don't see why you're so scared."
I stood up and slowly walked yo to my mothers balcony, the city looked more beautiful than ever as it was touched by the rays of the golden sunset. "It's beautiful isn't it? But you knew that.""It really is. Maybe... I do wanna be Sultan some day."
"Only if you want too though."
"Don't you want me to be?"
"I'd love it if you were, but it's all on you babygirl."
"Why can't people just tell me what to do, wouldn't it be so much easier?" My mom let out a sigh.
"You know there was once this princess who was told what to do by everyone. She was told when to speak, what to say, who to greet, what to wear. Her life was planned out for her."
"I'd kill to be her then."
"So did everyone, but she was miserable."
"What'd she do?"
"She shut up for most of her life, was never seen or heard until one day, she got fed up and decided she wasn't going to go any longer without fighting for what she believed in."
"And how'd that work out?"
"I don't know, she's got four kids, one of them is this lousy teenage girl who doesn't know what she wants, I'd say her life is pretty boring." She dramatically flipped her hair and rolled her as at me.
Playfully I pushed my mom. "And she is—"
"You're looking at her." My mom laughed. "No but it all seriousness Sahara. There's no such thing as a perfect life, no matter how planned out it is. We all deserve to make our own choices and whether yours is to lead here, somewhere else or to just disappear and travel the world again, it's all up to you and only you. And I mean sure I'd love for you to be the next Sultan of Agrabah, but if in the end it's not what you desire then that's okay too. And I'll be here to remind you every day if I have too." My mom looked down at me and lifted my chin. "Now, do you like this boy that much that you're talking about getting married already because I wasn't ready for that conversation." Her cheeks flushed red.
"I mean I do like him a lot, I guess I just wasn't ready for that conversation either... should I tell him that?"
"I think you should, but again it's your decision."
"I want too, I mean, I can barely keep my room clean, I can't talk about getting married."
My mom smiled gently, I could tell she was relieved. "Well then that's good because I don't think I could've told your father about any of this—" Suddenly we turned to the creaking noise of the door being pushed open.
"Your majesty, I'm sorry to bother you, are you busy?"
"Just finishing up some reading, is everything alright Hakim?"
"Your husband requests your presence as does Amir, who was asking for the princess."
"Will you tell Aladdin I'll be right down?" Hakim nodded and turned to me.
"I'll just go down with you." He opened the door for me as I turned back to my mother and let out a breath. "Just talk to him about it right?" My mom winked at me as I went to walk out the door.
Come on Sahara, you can do this...
