'who's there?'
"Those bastards must be clingy, since it has taken you three days to get back here" Mady sneers at me as I let myself into her cell, "You realise a war could start at any moment"
Should I be surprised that she is bitter about being left here for days when I said I would be back as soon as I could, no? Do I really care that much about how annoyed she is? Again, no.
I haven't told anyone about my visit down here because there is a part of me that thinks it is too good to be true, for her to swap allegiances so quickly, I give her an out and a chance to redeem herself and the all of a sudden, she never really wanted to do any of that.
I don't want to be naïve enough to believe what she is saying but at the same time I don't exactly know what I am supposed to do if she isn't willing to help, she's emotionally detached from me and if I have to put my life on the line to make sure they don't die and Edward is destroyed, then trusting the bitch who killed me is kind of my only option.
"You realise if you piss me off, I will leave you here to die, I'm your only way out"
"And I am vital to your plan, whether you want to admit it to me or not"
"Don't think I won't kick you out of it" I chuckle as I sit back in my chair from last time "I need to know what you injected me with"
"It was a hallucinogen, it essentially made you feel the effects of a lot of marijuana, and through that you entered an altered state of consciousness where you felt as if you were floating between two people. You and the spirit. When I slit your throat, I was aiming for Rhydian, then when he healed you with his blood, with the drug in your system you acted as if he hurt you. That's why you lashed out and I manipulated your anger to benefit me, essentially, I made the spell work. But Rhydian is right, you're the host and because of that it will never be able to hurt the people you care about; the good people" She explains with a solemn look.
"Like you" I state, a fresh wave of realisation washing over me.
"What?" she asks a look of confusion crossing her tired features.
"I never hurt you, which means you're a good person, even if you have done horrible things and were working for terrible people, you still felt guilty for what you did. I always thought it was weird I never hurt you, thought maybe it had something to do with the injection, but you also didn't run after I came back. We were all distracted, and you had the chance, but you stayed"
"He would have killed me if I went back, perhaps it was just self-preservation"
"You could have run anywhere, a country it would take him years to gain control off, you didn't leave because you wanted to stay"
"Maybe, maybe I saw the way you looked at me and behind the anger I saw a chance, a chance that maybe you would see me as something more than Cole's psycho murderous mate"
"Your mate doesn't define who you are, I think a lot of the things you did came from being his mate, he was a terrible person, but I don't think that means you are too"
"How can you say that?"
"Sometimes good people do bad things, doesn't mean they are bad"
"You're a lot nicer than I probably deserve" she relents, hanging her head.
"I think you deserve it" I smile, the thoughts of creating our plan are washed away as a loud crash echoes around the castle, making the cement walls shake and my anxiety spike. "Fuck, time's up!"
"What do we do?" She asks standing up with urgency, my head swimming as I try and latch onto emotions that are my own anger, fear, dread, it is drowning me, and I pray to see something purple but instead get a wave of dizziness that causes me to stumble.
