Catalina
When I walked out of the bathroom after taking a bath, the first thing I saw was men sent by Alexander, to get our furniture sold up. They started picking it all up without making any conversation as I helplessly stared.
"Ade..." I called out to Adelaide as she spread her arms waking up. "I set you a bubble bath. Mommy's got some work. Will you be able to manage on your own?"
"Yes..." She yawned, squirming back into the sheets.
"Sweetie...get up. Don't you want to go to Daddy's?" I told the only thing that could set her into action.
"Go where?" Her head shot up instantly.
"Your Daddy's house, your actual house. We decided to take you there now." I stroked her hair as she got up from the bed, all the exhausted looks wiped off immediately.
"And you won't come?" She clutched my shoulders, standing on the bed.
"Of course I will come baby." Till he lets me, I added to myself. "Go, bathe. Ask me if you need any help. Brush your teeth as well." I called out behind her.
"I will!"
I walked out of the bedroom and into the living room to find it all empty. No couch, no table in front of it, no dining table in the kitchen either, all empty.
"Is there anything else we are supposed to take?" The 'leader' of the group asked, rearranging his cap for the thousandth time.
"There's a bed in there, a dressing table too." I pointed in the bedroom's direction.
"Come boys." He instructed to the others in his gruffy voice. Before they'd go in, I went inside and ensured that Ade was still in the tub, which she of course was, playing with the yellow duck.
"May we come in, Miss?"
"Yes, please." And within a fraction of seconds, the entire apartment was emptied, all our memories gone.
"Your payment?" I asked, not knowing whether Alex had made the payment or not.
"Mr. Alexander took care of that, we'll take your leave."
"Oh. Okay...thanks."
"Your welcome." With a wave in my direction, they left.
"Mommy!" I heard Adelaide's shriek from the bedroom.
"Yes, sweetie." I found her covered in two towels, big brown eyes the same as Alex staring blankly at the empty bedroom.
"Where is-where is our bed?"
"Oh...the bed...don't you want to go live at your Dad's?"
"I do..."
"Yes, and that's why we had to send the bed away. So that you'll have a new one there, maybe one for you all alone. Wouldn't that be fun?"
"Yes!" She jumped up in the air.
"I know...wear these." I gave her the dress which Alexander had gotten delivered early morning. "We are going today."
"A new dress?" Her voice turned excited.
"Yup. Daddy got it for you. Make sure to thank him."
"Okay..." I helped her put the undergarments and she quickly slipped into the floral yellow dress. "Won't you wear something good?" She pointed at me.
"Isn't this fine?" I pointed at my old t-shirt and pants.
"No...wear somethin' good."
"Good?"
