Diana and Mariano were studying for a chemistry exam at Mariano's house. And while I say studying, I really mean Diana was tutoring Mariano. The two had met after their chemistry teacher assigned Diana as his official tutor. Which leads to them meeting up every now and then to study together. But, for them, it was more than just studying.

"Okay, I think I got this question, but I'm not sure." Mariano said as he sat on the floor with his back up against the side of the bed.

"Let me see." Diana reached down from the bed as Mariano handed his paper up to her. Ever since he and Diana would go to his house for lessons, he always let her sit on his bed. Usually, she'd prefer sitting at the kitchen table, but Mariano liked being in his room.

"This is really good, you got everything correct, except this one thing." Diana scooted towards the edge of the bed, laying Mariano's paper in his lap. From behind, she explained the problem as she spoke into his ear. He liked how she spoke so softly into his ear, another reason Mariano preferred she sit on his bed.

Diana kind of liked it too. Though she never intended it, she liked smelling his cologne, it was strong enough for her to smell it from his bed.

"Alright, I need a break." Mariano got up from his position and laid his books on his dresser.

Diana started sitting up, holding her red plaided skirt down as she did. Diana was worried if Mariano's mother felt uncomfortable with her skirts, or even if Mariano felt uncomfortable. Diana's mother was always strict about how Diana should dress. 'You need to dress like your social class, show them you're worth more than them'. Diana never told people she came from a wealthy family, but the way her rude mother made her dress, it was evident shes got money.

After Diana moved her stuff to the side, Mariano sat next to her, drinking a water bottle as he did. She admired him from where she sat. You see, Diana liked Mariano. He was the first boy who talked to her regardless of her money. And, though she didn't know, he liked her aswell. She was sweet to him and believed he could be something bigger than what others have told him to be.

"Mariano," Diana said, rolling the 'R' in his name the way he liked it, "I need to tell you something." Her back rested against the headboard, as Mariano sat at the end of the bed.

"Okay." Mariano shifted his body so he was facing Diana.

"Um... just, don't be weirded out." Diana was so nervous she fingers started pulling at the sleeves of her sweater. Cute, Mariano thought, smiling a bit before Diana continued. "I... kind of... like you."

Oh, he thought. Here's the thing, Mariano liked Diana, he really did, but he knew it would never work out. The two come from different backgrounds, different social statuses. Mariano wasn't poor, in fact, his family was well off, but compared to Diana, he was nothing. He was popular, a total ladies man, but Diana didn't care about popularity, nor did she like having any attention towards her.

"Well, are you going to say something?" Diana knew her parents would disapprove, but she didn't care.

"I like you too." Diana felt relieved, the weight on her shoulders has been lifted. "But, I'm nothing. I'm not worth anything." Mariano was proud of his family, proud of who raised him, but he never felt worthy enough for Diana.

"What do you mean? That's crazy." Diana didn't understand. She always believed in Mariano, in everything he did. She'd go to his soccer games to show him support since his parents worked till late at night, she didn't even know how soccer was played.

"Come on, let's just get back to studying." Mariano just wanted to forget everything. Forget she had told him she liked him, forget his feelings towards her, just forget everything.

"Mar-" Diana was interrupted by Mariano's mother walking into the room, telling Diana that her mom was there to pick her up. As she left, Diana was shoving her books into her backpack as quickly as possible. "I'm gonna go. I'll see you tomorrow." Diana quickly left his room, embarrassed, and heartbroken about what had just happened.

Mariano didn't say anything, he didn't know how to make things better as their friendship will probably never be the same.
