"THE FORK INCIDENT"
𝙺𝚒𝚘 𝙲𝚢𝚛

-

Since I started seeing Kio, one of the things I dreaded the most was meeting his parents. There was no problem with meeting his friends, but meeting the parents is absolutely nerve-racking. Some people may think that whether or not the mom likes you doesn't really matter, but it matters to me. Not that I'm looking too far into the future, but I would like to think that Kio's mother and I should have a good relationship if Kio and I are gonna get married. Again... not looking too far into the future.

Thankfully the introduction and the semi-awkward dinner portion of the night is finally over. And when I say semi-awkward, I'm talking about how I accidentally flung my fork across the room by just laying my hand too close to my plate. That's not as bad as the one time when I accidentally bumped into the waitress who was behind my table with a tray full of plates.

"Well, that wasn't too bad."  Kio said as he sat on the couch next to me.

"Seriously? I almost broke your mom's china plates with my fork." I hope I didn't sound too sarcastic.

Kio laughed at my comment like it was a joke. "Yeah, that was pretty funny." I gave him a glare that he quickly picked up on. "Oh come on, I'm joking."

I sighed knowing I may have been a little dramatic. "I know. I just wanted things to go perfect today." I frowned thinking about the fork incident again.

"Come on, let's go upstairs." Kio pulled me off the couch out of nowhere.

"Kio," I knew he was heading towards his room, but I didn't want to leave if his parents were coming to the living room too, "we can't go to your room."

Kio stopped and looked back at me. "Why not? You've been there plenty of times." He smirked at me, thinking he was all smooth.

I couldn't help but blush at his comment, this little dipshit. "Don't say things like that when your mom could probably hear you." I whispered it, making sure his parents couldn't hear us from the kitchen.

Kio whispered back, "Of course she can hear us, moms hear everything. Now come on, I want to talk to you in private."

He began pulling me upstairs to his room, this time I went with ease since I knew he wasn't going to stop this time. I would be lying if I said this was the first time I had been in here, truthfully I've even had to sneak out the window sometimes. Just thinking about that embarrasses me, but it also made me feel more comfortable when I sat on his bed for what felt like the fiftieth time already.

"So, what do you want to talk about?"

"Well," Kio started pulling at his sleeves like he always does when he's nervous, so I knew this talk was going to be big, "there's something I need to tell you."

Oh god, what's happening.

"We've been together for a long time."

Is he gonna break up with me? Wait-no. Of course not. I just met his parents, why would he break up with after everything?

"And, after everything we've been through together, there is something I need to be truthful about." Kio sat down, grabbing my hands and holding it.

Oh, don't tell me he's secretly gay or has a twin brother.

"I just feel like after I say this, things are going to be different, but I'm ready to tell you."

Maybe it's not even that bad.

"I-"

Is he really even Canadian?

"-love you."

Huh? That's it? I mean-

"You... love me?" I can't believe it. He finally said it. Oh shit... he finally said it.

"Well yeah. Of course, I do. I just have been too chicken to say it. But, I love you, so much."

"Oh my god, that's such a relief." I held my hand to my chest, feeling the weight off my shoulders slide away.

"Really?"

"Yeah. I thought you were gonna say you weren't Canadian or that you had a twin. Phew!" At this point, I was laughing out of relief.

"I'm sorry, what?"

"But, now that I know it's because you wanted to tell me how you felt, I feel... relieved."

I looked at Kio who kept a smile on his face but looked down after a while. For some reason, the feeling in the room changed for me.

"Um... hey." I nudged on his shoulder as he looked up. "I love you too."

Kio's face brightened and his smile reappeared. "Really?"

I nodded in response but was quickly smushed down on the bed by Kio's body. We laid down as he left kisses all over my face. Today wasn't so bad after all.
