"New York was so much fun."

Kiana and Kairi were at his house hanging out the day before they return back to school. If it were up to them, they'd spend all week in the city, but now they're back to reality and to some problems that were left unsolved.

"Yeah. I've never seen you so happy." Kairi smiled remembering how Kiana's mood brightened the second they arrived in New York.

Kiana let out a small laugh, keeping her smile visible on her face. She fell back on Kairi's bed, reminiscing the memories she's made with her friends. Meanwhile Kairi sat on the edge of the admiring her. He knew if Alyssa had been there, she would have said something about the way he was looking at Kiana, but she isn't here is she? Kairi felt relief that he didn't have to hold back on his feelings when they were alone, but it Kiana didn't make it easy for him to feel that way.

"What?"

Kairi's focus cane back to Kiana as she questioned him while he was staring at her.

"Huh?" Play dumb, he thought.

"Kairi, I know when you stare at me. I'm not dumb." Kiana sat up to sit on the edge of the bed like Kairi.

"Sorry, I-" Truthfully, Kairi didn't know what to say. He just got caught staring at his best friend in a way that no one should to someone that's in a relationship.

"Kairi..." Kiana knew how Kairi felt, she didn't know how to deal with it. "I know that you don't see me as just a friend. I mean, it's obvious."

Kairi was a little shocked about how she brought this up, but maybe this was his only chance to confess how he really felt.

"Kiana, I wanna be with you. And honestly, we would make a cute fucking couple. And I know your with someone, but she can't give you everything I can." Kairi blurted everything out in an instance. "Don't you... feel something for me too?"

Kiana didn't know what to say because she didn't know how she felt. Kairi is her closest friend, who she knows is such a good guy, but she's loyal to Alyssa.

"Regardless of how I feel, you don't know if we'd even be good together. You don't know if we'd even last a month. And if we don't, what happens? We stop being friends? Alejandro and everyone are my friends too, what if I lose them when I lose you? So tell me, how do you know we would even be right for each other?"

"How do I know?" Kairi's only option at this point was to just speak his mind. "I don't. I don't know if we would last. But what I do know... is a lot. I know that every time we go to theaters, you get annoyed when they don't put extra butter on your popcorn like they're supposed to, yet your afraid to ask them because your worried you'll seem rude. I know that you leave your window open on Saturdays because the neighbors mow their lawn and you like the smell of fresh cut grass. I know that you get braids all the time because your afraid of what people will say about your natural curls. I know that you prefer Hi-C fruit punch over Hawaiian Punch because supposedly there's a major difference in the taste."

"There is a major difference."

"Not the point." Kairi interrupted her before she gets into why there's a difference. "The point is, I know all these things because I know learned them over time, not because you told me to remember. Kiana I care about you a lot, and I wanna keep learning more things about you if you let me."

It was as if Kairi could finally breathe. But for Kiana, she felt like all the oxygen was pulled out of her. She liked Kairi, maybe in a way that she shouldn't, but she did. Which is why what she did next was unexpecting for her, and Kairi. Her lips pressed against Kairi's as he sat there shocked but what was happening.

After a second passed, she pulled way to see a wide eyed Kairi. "O-Oh my god. Did I just do that? Kairi I'm so so-"

But Kiana was interrupted by Kairi going in for a kiss. She melted into him, with feelings resurfacing that she had pushed away. It was as if the world was silent, and nothing mattered. But, that quickly ended when Kiana realized what she had done. Pulling away, she looked at anything that wasn't Kairi.

"What am I going to do? I can't look at Alyssa in the eye and pretend nothing has happened." Kiana's mind was racing.

"Just break up with her." That comment earned him a hit from Kiana. "Ow."

"I have to tell her what happened. And what she wants to do with me... I'll take it." Kiana wasn't going just leave Alyssa, she had to straighten things out with her first.

"Hey," Kairi put his arm around Kiana's shoulder, comforting her, "it's gonna be okay. And if it isn't, I'll still be there."

Kiana looked at Kairi, being reminded more and more on why she feels the way she does for the boy.

"I know."
