Mastace hoped that what he was saying was sinking in. He couldn't tell what was going on in Briggan's head. Briggan just looked at him with a blank stare. It was impossible to even guess what the thoughts going on behind those crystal-blue eyes might have been.

Suddenly and without warning, Briggan put his face in Mastace's chest, sobbing uncontrollably. " Why?" was all he could say. That, and " Not fair" was all Mastace could make out between the sobs. The ice is finally broken, he thought. Now, I can begin to help him. Let's just hope he's up for this.

Briggan finally let go of whatever it was holding him back from this. His doubts, his fears, his code. At this moment, for the faintest of instants, Briggan felt free. He was free. Whatever it was that influenced him to live this life of solitude, it didn't matter anymore. Nothing mattered except this moment, the moment he finally poured his heart out ...

Khrysta turned the corner to pick up an unusual sound. Was that - crying? She looked around and immediately found the source. She found Mastace with his arms around Briggan, who had finally had enough and was weeping and whimpering wildly.

First, she narrowed her eyes in contempt at the scene before her. Then she couldn't bear to look at it, so she turned her face away.

The sound of Briggan's sobbing pulled at her heartstrings, however. She looked once again, and her face softened and her heart melted. Better now, with him, than never at all.
