You, along with Mariana and Jude, began packing your lunch. You grabbed an orange first before heading to the fridge.

"Seriously? There's no more oranges?" Jesus complained.

"Sorry, I think I took the last one." You admitted.

"And the bread? All we have are the ends." Jesus continued. "This is like The Hunger Games."

"You do know those books aren't actually about food right?" Mariana asked.

"Sorry guys, I'll hit the market today." Mama said.

"Morning." Mom had greeted Callie who had now entered the kitchen.

"Morning. Are we out of, um-" she stared but Jesus interrupted.

"Everything." Jesus said before walking out.

"Bacon! We've got bacon. Have some bacon." Mom said holding up a plate of bacon.

"I want everyone home for family dinner tonight." Mom had announced. "Five p.m. Yes?"

"Wrestling won't be done-" Jesus started.

"What about dance?" Mariana asked.

"Do I hear six p.m.? Anybody?" Mom then asked.

"I have work so I was just going to eat there with Daphne." Callie answered causing moms to give a look. "But I will eat here instead."

"Um, I'm supposed to go to the batting cages with Connor." Jude spoke up.

"Batting cages, as in baseball?" Jesus asked.

"Yeah, Connor and his dad go all the time. They invited me." Jude had said.

"You know, I remember going with them once when we were little and I was absolutely terrified and refused to go back." You said before biting a piece of bacon. Everyone gave you a look. "But I mean, it's not that bad. I was like six. You'll love it."

"Nice save." Jesus said.

"Oh whatever." You said taking a piece of bacon from his plate.

"Really? You're so funny." Jesus said sarcastically.

"Well, I think that's great Jude." Mama said moving the subject back to Jude.

"I never knew you were a baseball guy." Mariana told Jude.

"I haven't really played much, but who knows, maybe I'm really good at it." He said optimistic.

"Yeah, maybe!" Mariana said encouragingly.

"Just have fun baby. That's all that counts." Mama added.

"So, mom, I was thinking about what you said last night. Not giving up, I mean." Brandon started. "I think I want to get the surgery. Try to repair the nerve damage." It was silent.

"Okay. Um... The doctor said that it's a difficult and complex procedure. And if things don't go as hoped, your hand could actually get worse."

"Yeah, I mean, she said there's a chance of that." Brandon replied.

"Well, she also said that if the surgery did cause damage, that it could actually be permanent." Mom said.

"You've got almost ninety five percent function now. That's better than the doctor had even hoped." Mama said supportively.

"But, if I'm gonna play piano, I need a hundred percent." Brandon replied. " so I'd like to give it a shot."
