Beneath The Earth
I awaken, wistfully blinking dandelion
Fairies away, no longer leading distant
Travellers astray, using bewitching wiles
Of mine to beguile and betray.
Yellow skies quenching my butterfly
Lashes of Elvish kisses, once upon a time
Granting meddlesome wishes.
Winking and fluttering in ice glazed lands of
White nights, my gazing eyes of cornflower
Blue flickering in fickle candle-light.
A fine feminine youth stands within - where
My memories of past years await burning,
My heart for deliverance is left to yearning.
I strike dew dampened rock simpering
And sulking beneath the earth of creative
Birth, riddles carved upon baked bark by
Dragonfly quills, hidden within incandescent
Daffodils.
Laboriously caught and chained, I live
Through raw routine roughly ingrained,
A single bronze coin at the end of each
Day, how little hard work has come to pay.
Perspiration rolling from my brow and
Malefic mind, raggedy clothes trailing
Behind, by shining pickaxe rubies rain,
Cascading in hours that wax and wane.
Black daylight consuming all in low and
Winding halls, bleak and drawn the melody
Of clanging metal ringing from dusk until
Merciful dawn.
