Chapter 14

Death to Family

Good morning Mr. & Mrs. Washington said, Mr. Smith; we about to go into the courtroom, and I wanted to make sure that Joyce was ready to face the three young men that hurt her. Yes, sir, I'm more than ready; I have nightmares about them raping me again, and I believe once they are in jail, I'll feel a little better said, Joyce. Joyce, I do understand that this is hard for you, but you must remember everything we have been going over this past couple of weeks. Their lawyer will try and make you out to be the bad guy; she may even say that you lured them into the fire escape for sex and cried rape after they were done. Then, you beat these young men making them attack you so that you will look like the victim. Joyce, I want to make sure you're ready for all this; please let me know now of this will be too much for you to handle. Mr. Smith, I have been waiting three long weeks for this court date and refuse to turn back now. Them boys always spoke to me, and my brother acted like they were our friends only for them to hurt my family and me. I'm so ready to face them; I can taste it.

Terrell and Kimberly sat back, watching and listening to the daughter speak. They were proud parents and would be by her side the whole time. Kim was worried because she didn't want her daughter to experience any more pain for them terrible boys, but she knew they raised a strong young lady, and she would walk with her head held high. Terrell, on the other hand, was still angry, he wanted to kill their entire family that night, but knew it would fall back on the family, so he had to fall back until Uncle Dev gave him the green light. Terrell grabbed Kimberly's hand letting her know everything was going to be okay; they have not spoken about what happened to their daughter which was the first for them every. They always talked about everything no matter how painful it was; this made the couple stronger because they had to be there for Joyce no matter how painful. Okay, family, it's time to go into the courtroom said, Mr. Smith.

As the Washington family walked into the courtroom, there were so many people there, people that they have never seen before, and there was their family all sitting together. Tamika smiled at Kim and Joyce, Dris made eye contact with Terrell and told him he's here for their family. Joyce looked around the courtroom looking for one person, and when she laid eyes on Chase, she smiled, knowing that her brother was there with her. The only person that was not in the courtroom was Uncle Devin, aka Det. Mead, there was only one reason he would not be there today. Kim and Chuck knew why and they never thought twice about not seeing him today. Joyce never noticed he was not in the courtroom which was for the best.

Before everyone took their seats Christopher, Maurice, and Jason Jr, Berks all entered the courtroom in handcuffs and bright orange jumpsuits. Joyce and Jason Jr. made eye contact, Jason smiled at her and blew her kiss, this made Joyce feel uncomfortable, and she wanted to run. Instant, she turned to find her brother, Chase was already looking her way seeing everything Jason Jr. did to his sister. Christopher and Maurice held their heads down with tears running down their faces, and they were scared because their oldest brother planned all this. He was the one who planned to rape Joyce that day and told them she wanted this; once they were in the fire escape, it was too late, and everything happened so fast. Maurice never wanted to hurt her and was more surprised when she was able to take them all down. Little did Jason Jr. know was that his brothers told their father everything and Mr. Berks hired a lawyer for his younger two sons without Mrs. Berks or Jason Jr. knowing. Mr. Berks knew that all 3 of his sons would be facing jail time but he was willing to help the younger two boys out because they were honest with him about everything. As the boys were standing another lawyer walked into the courtroom and pulled Christopher and Maurice to the side; he looked over at Jason Jr.'s lawyer and just smiled. Mrs. Berks looked over at her husband and asked him what was going on; he told her that Jason Jr. planned it all and pulled his brothers into this mess. They are going to testify against Jason Jr. and get less jail time, and they will not have to register on the list once they are released. Yolanda Berks was so mad at her husband and sons she just got up and moved her seat closer to her oldest son, Jason Jr. was looking over at his brothers with rage in his eyes.
