Chapter 17

October 17, 2015, Final Goodbye

As everyone prepared for Dris and Mika's funeral, Khasir was still preparing for his final move on Khaliyl. There was no time for tears until his parents' killer laid dead like them. Malachi was moving like everything was the same; as if; Dris and Mika was still alive. He would not attend the service for fear that all would become real to him. Khasir and Malachi sat in the family car, waiting for the service to end. They both refused to go inside until Kim came out to the car. She demanded they both come in before that caskets closed for the last time. She refused to take no for an answer, and both youngmen exited the car with tears running down their faces. Their final goodbye to their parents.

As they entered Fern Rock Baptist Church, people started staring and whispering at the youngmen walking up to the caskets. Some people never saw Dris and Mika children, and others look amazed by how much they have grown. With Kim holding them up, she walked side-by-side with her god-children. Kim and Rell will now have to uphold the promise that was made between the friends so many years ago. Love, Honor, Protect, and Care for, no matter what happens.

Khasir and Malachi covered their parents' faces for the last time. Once that was done, they closed the caskets to end the life of their parents forever. The service continued with Rev. Johnson saying wonderful things about Tamika first, then Idris. He stated they were wonderful, loving parents; they honored their sons and never would place them in harm's way. He then continued by stating the Tamika helped hundreds of women, how she would guide them to a happier life without drugs and abuse. Tamika ran the local shelter for Abused Women Alive, and this place gave so many women a second chance in life. She would travel to different cities that protect a woman in need; call in favors to find housing or just shelter. Tamika also helped her best friend/sister Kimberly run their family dinner, and she was a person that loved smiles and would do anything to help. Tamika will forever be remembered as a loving, caring person.

Rev. Johnson continued by talking about Dris next. Idris was a man with many hats. He had one best friend/brother, which was Terrell, the two men walked together for over 20 years. He would help around the neighborhood, guiding youngmen from the corner and drug life. He would provide them jobs in local stores, different warehouse work. Idris made it his business to love his wife and children. One thing I remember about Idris is and that he spoke highly regarding his children. He would smile every time someone asked about them. Idris never walked away from a fight that he won or lost. Idris made a promise to his family and friends that he would not die in sin, and he has upheld that promise. Today, we celebrate the life of Idris and Tamika Mitchell; no more tears just all smiling because they would want you to be happy, not sad.

As everyone exited the church, the local police station was waiting to escort them to the burial ground. Once again, Khasir and Malachi sat in the family car waiting for this day to be over. The entire time Malachi was thinking about killing Khaliyl, he would see his face every time he closed his eyes. Khasir could read his brother like a book and knew they were thinking the same thing.

Dris and Mika were killed for no reason at all; they stepped away from life long ago, like Rell and Kim. Many years ago, the four friends would make extra money by carrying out hits for the local Mob; but after their children were born, everything stopped so they would not be in harm's way. Rell wanted answers, not knowing that the three youngmen already know who did this terrible act. He was ready to hit the streets once again, to get the answers he wants. Kim promised herself that once that was over, she was in the streets again because her sister will not be gone without the correct revenge. Rell and Kim locked eyes without saying a word to one another. Plan in motion.
