Crackling of fire and the ocean breeze made out for the perfect night out at the beach with your friends. It was still rather warm outside so you and your friends still wore shorts; the boys too still in thin t-shirts. Your winter break was going the exact way you wanted except one person had been on your mind the whole trip. Han Jisung is his name. He sat across from you holding a beer, oblivious to your longing glances and stares. Your break is two weeks long and you had 4 more days on your big group trip to make a move before it was too late.

Your whole trip had started when Jisung suggested that your friend group take a trip to his family's beach house. The girls being you, Yeji, Somi, Chaeryeong, and Heejin. The boys that decided to come along are Jisung, Hyunjin, Daehwi, Wooyoung, and Eric. Now you were all sat around a fire without much to do other than crack jokes and play games.

"Looks like y/n is over here daydreaming again." Yeji, your friend who you've been rooming with nudged your shoulder. Your group of friends snickered at your dazed expression that screamed "I'm totally thinking about the guy who's right in front of me." Your crush on Jisung was rather obvious, or at least it was to the other girls.

"Ignore me, look Hyunjin and Eric are finally back." You said shortly. Jisung's stare was hot in your hands that fiddled anxiously against the wooden logs you sat on. The game of truth or dare that you had been playing was cut short when Hyunjin and Eric went back to the house to get more snacks. They should have come back 5 minutes ago with food but instead they had a bundle of towels and floaties.

"Oh god please don't tell me you two want to go swimming in this water?" Daehwi shook his head at the other two boys.

"Why not? It'll be fun. That truth or dare game was busted anyways we're too old for that." Eric shrugged.

"That water is probably freezing." Somi reasoned.

"Well we're going, anyone is welcome to join." Hyunjin left without another though pulling off his shirt in the process.

"I'm going in, it seems fun." Yeji stood along with the others except for Daehwi, Somi, and Jisung.

"Oh okay, if you get sick I'm kicking you out of the room!" You waved the others a farewell off to the cold water.

"I'm gonna take a walk, that water doesn't look too nice." Daehwi stood too and Somi followed. It quickly became awkward when only you and Jisung were left sitting in the now lonely circle.

"I take it that you're not a fan of water?" You tried to start a conversation without embarrassing yourself.

"I can't stand being cold. I've been swimming here so many times and when I tell you that this water is freezing, it's freezing." Jisung set down his empty bottle with others that littered the sand.

"Oh...I don't want to get sick..." You trailed off staring down at the ground. Your lack of conversational skills really jumped out and you couldn't help but feel pity for Jisung. You two have been friends for a long time but never close, just good friends who hung out with others mutually.

"So...how have you been enjoying the trip? I was kinda scared you guys were going to destroy my whole house." Jisung said with a small laugh. His thoughts were valid. Living in a house filled with young adults who had raging hormones has been...interesting. You guys had definitely all become closer even though the house was chaotic at times.

"Pretty good so far. The view out here is always nice during this time," Your wistful gaze at the sunset that made the water looking like a field of gold was evident. The clouds were pink and tangerine orange, as though the touch of the warm sun made them too blush. "Though I wish you boys upstairs didn't pound on the floor boards every night."

"You can take that up with Wooyoung and Hyunjin, I'll doubt they'll listen though." He let out an airy laugh that put you at ease. Jisung had that relaxing effect on people that you couldn't quite describe.

"I never asked, but how did you convince your parents to allow all 10 of us to come here?" You asked the first question that came to your mind.

"I can tell you, but you have to come over here first because it's a secret." Jisung had a mischievous glint in his eyes that made you curious.

"But no one is over here to hear your 'secret' except me." Even as you said this you slowly rose from your seat with a smile.

"Just sit over here please." He whined and it was enough to make you move. He was silent, staring blankly at the fire pit that had started to dim.

"So? Your secret?" You nudged his shoulder expectantly.

"Oh, there was no secret I just wanted you to sit next to me so this could stop being so awkward." You didn't know if you wanted to commend him for being slick or hang your head in embarrassment.

"Jisung!" You said with a groan as heat rose up your neck and turned your already rosy cheeks pink.

"They said we can stay here as long as no one breaks anything," Jisung ran his fingers through his dark hair with a grin. "Or do uh things in the house..." His hand moved to his neck when he said the last part. You raised an eyebrow, eyeing him thoughtfully. It was his turn to nudge you back.

"I would say, or hope that no one has done either?" Jisung only shrugged in response.

"Ew, gross." The conversation lulled and you got a chance to observe your friends in the water. Their laughter echoed across the beach along with the occasional scream. You watch the glittering water, lost in the rhythmic percussion of waves on sand. Your lips bear the semblance of a soft smile, just enough to show that you were raveled in your thoughts. Jisung moved a bit closer yet stays quiet, allowing you to stay lost in the moment a while longer.

You were a mystery to Jisung and he wanted to get closer to you personally. He just never knew how. He had indeed noticed your random glances at him throughout the week and thought maybe he could get to know you a little more.

Jisung hated to interrupt your thoughts even yet he wanted to be straightforward with you. "Can I ask you something?" He let out a nervous sigh.

"Oh...of course what's up?" The way he stared at you made you giddy with nervousness. Your bare feet dug into the sand as his proximity next to you became even more apparent.

"You've been staring at me since our trip began," Your heart sank at his words.

A thousand scenarios ran through your mind at that moment, the majority of them being cold hard rejection.

"I know we've been friends for a while but I want to get to know you even more. I feel like I don't know that much about you and I think you feel the same about me." His change of direction made your frown rise.

You were sure at first that he was going to tell you to leave him alone and stop being creepy.

"Y-yeah I feel the same, we can hang out more if you want." You cursed yourself when your voice shook more than intended. Jisung caught it and instead laughed.

"You don't have to be so nervous around me," He rubbed your arm lightly before standing up. "Let's go check out the water, we don't have to get all the way in." Jisung held out his hand and you gratefully took it. When you stood your legs shook just a little but it went unnoticed by Jisung who pulled you along smiling towards the water. Your trip had just gotten a whole lot better and you hoped you could actually get to know Jisung better. For now though, you were content with the moment. The golden water looked a lot more inviting with Jisung by your side now.
