Teddy: Are you sure you want to do this? I mean, there could be other ways.

Andrew: *shakes head* no, this is the only way I want it. Besides, what's life without a little challenge?

Act 2, Scene 5 of "The big Idea™"

Written and directed by Cyrus Goodman

It's all way too loud. And the energy around this place sets everything of edge. I can practically see Amber grinning when I mention to her about the energy, she is in far too deep with the yoga stuff.

Most importantly, Cyrus Goodman is staring at me.

Which wouldn't be a bad thing, it's not really. And definitely not the first time this has happened, not for a long time.

It's just hard to remember what I said about being professional when you have that type of eye contact on you. When you know that person is so focused on you, your body, mind, heart, that everything around them is a blur.

Very hard to be professional, but I can manage. It's what I've done my whole life.

Nick, Cyrus's friend (he was wearing a name tag) stands on one of the many spin-y chairs the directors get holding a megaphone. They have their own table overlooking the rest of us who are surrounding a large square version with a hole in the middle, big enough to preform scenes.

"Okay everyone!" He shouts and we have to cover our ears from the static of the megaphone. He presses a few buttons to turn it down, "sorry. Anyway, welcome to the first table reading of our film!" A few shouts and cheers from the small crowd. "So everyone has labelled seats, if you could find them, we can start with our director, Mr Goodman!" Then he climbs down.

Cyrus looks up from his phone he was scrolling on and gives a small smile.

I find my seat right next to Jonah and Kira, at least one of them is my friend. It's interesting that both of them are my love interests though.

"Hi guys," Cyrus starts, less confident than Nick, he breathes yoga like, in and out. "I just wanted to start with a few rules and stuff, don't worry, not that hard. Uh, firstly, everyone here has the ability to speak up about their role, we can change the script, improv, this is really just to get to know you guys a little more. Also, some of you might have to go on eating plans, not diets, but some roles require certain looks. I know, not very progressive, I'm sorry. Think of it like a Broadway star's menu."

Well at least he isn't saying all of us have to be super buff or skinny.

"Oh and lastly, we won't be having any relationships within our crew here without claiming it and signing it into a contract. If you're willing to do that, great, but otherwise, no causal dating." Cyrus looks as far away from me as possible.

Why does that make my heart sink a little?

But it's fine. On the plus side, at least Kira won't be stealing me behind the curtains of set any time soon. I can thank him for that.

"Okay, with that settled, let's begin with Act 1, scene 2? I need to get a chemistry test on this." Cyrus gestures to me, smiling, but not in the usual way he does.

Turns out Chemistry checks are fine. It takes a few goes with me and Jonah, but only because we couldn't stop laughing. Which made Cyrus frown. At least I think it's that part.

Finally we get to the actual scenes, still in Act 1 since those lines are definite. It takes a little while for the rest of us to get comfortable, but once we do, it moves steadily and actually feels fun.
