Person A: Did you really have to hold up THAT sign?
Person B: Certainly! How else am I supposed to welcome my boyfriend home? I made this wonderful sign to make sure you knew where I was!
Person A: Sign bedazzled with the word 'NERD' isn't particularly welcoming.
Person B: Of course it is. It's a term of endearment, that, might I add, only you would recognize.
Person A: Tell me again why I put up with you. *smiles*
Chapter Forty One:
After a long three weeks being surrounded by other scientists, he was finally almost home.
Hank loves talking to others who were like him, especially since he wants to start a project that he knew would help others, but sometimes they can be very exhausting as well. They love to disagree with everything you say even though Hank knows he is right. Just because he was the youngest scientist doesn't mean he was naive and dumber than the others. He was just glad he could be home. Back to his bed, his own lab, to his most beautiful boyfriend.
God he wished he brought Alex with him. It was hell having to go through long conferences only to go back to your hotel room and his boyfriend was back home, you know, seven hours away on plane. There was more than a few nights he spent hours into the night talking to Alex, nearly in tears in frustration and Alex comforting him, reminding him that he was better than the others.
There were nights were he fell asleep to the soft deep tone of his boyfriend's voice and some nights where it was Alex who fell asleep on him during the phone call. So yes, Hank was really looking forward to tonight where he could finally sleep in his own bed holding his boyfriend close to him.
However, Alex can be really annoying sometimes, but it was mostly out of love.
So when Hank spotted the sign, he couldn't stop the groan from escaping his lips and rubbing a hand over his face. Even though he absolutely hated that god forbidded sign, he still couldn't stop the butterflies in his stomach and a content fondness to come up. Because even though Alex could be a brat and a dork, Alex was his.
His and nobody else's.
A smile appearing onto his lips, he starts walking again to the most gorgeous person in the whole entire universe and Alex grinning back. The blond finally dropped the stupid sign and Hank drops his carry on to meet him halfway, pulling the shorter male into his chest. He gently presses his cheek onto Alex's soft golden locks and a content sighs escape him, his muscles relaxing, tension fading away.
He was finally home.
Alex presses his face into his neck and holds onto him tightly, fingers gripping the back of his jacket tightly. "Hi bozo, I missed you." Alex says, his voice slightly muffled but Hank heard him just fine. "God I really missed you." He says and Alex finally pulls away, smiling up at him with those blue eyes.
Hank didn't like to display intense affection out in the world. He was in love with this man in front of him and Alex loved him back, why make huge grand gestors to show it off? But at this moment he just doesn't care, he hasn't seen his boyfriend in three weeks so he doesn't hesitate to kiss him. Alex melting against him, opening up to him was just what he needed.
"Let's get you home. You must be exhausted." Alex says with a dopey grin and Hank gives him another quick kiss before grabbing his carry on off the floor. "That sounds amazing." He says tiredly and they quickly walk over to the baggage claim to grab his suitcase before Alex was guiding him over to the car.
On the way home, Hank caught sight of that horrid sign before sighing again. "Did you really have to hold up that sign?" He asks and the blond giggles before taking his hand, intertwining their fingers and resting them on the center console. "Certainly! How else am I supposed to welcome my boyfriend home? I made this wonderful sign to make sure you knew where I was!"
Of course he did. Alex was unique like that, he had a different mind from the others. Must be one of the reasons he feel in love with him. Hank doesn't bother to tell him, he knew Alex already knows.
"A sign bedazzled with the word 'nerd' isn't particularly welcoming." He says and yawns. It took a minute for Alex to reply as he turns the corner and stops at a red light. "Please, of course it is. It's a term of endearment, that, might I add, only you would recognize." Alex says after a scoff and Hank gives him a fond loving look before squeezing their hands.
"Tell me again why I put up with you?" He teases with a grin and Alex gives him a smile. A long ongoing look that was funny at first but now meant a lot to them. "Because you love me." He says softly and Hank lifts their hands and presses a kiss on the back of the blond's hand. "Yes I do." He says softly. "Also because I'm great in bed." He jabs. "Alex!" Hank groans, causing the blond to laugh as he parks the car and turns the engine off.
"What? You know it's true." He says and before the brunet could even reply, the blond got out of the car and opens the trunk to grab his boyfriend's bag.
They both walk into the house and the blond hustles him into the bedroom, where he goes over to the dresser to grab Hank his softest pair of pajamas. The brunet didn't waste any time changing into them and he turns to see Alex was also in his own pair of soft ones and they both climb into bed. Hank sighs again when Alex adjusts them so the brunet rests his head onto the smaller man's chest. "Get some sleep babe, we can worry about everything else tomorrow okay? I want to hear all about it, even though I would have no idea what you are talking about." Alex says, running his hand through his boyfriend's hair and Hank hums.
"Love you." He mumbles half asleep already and Alex smiles.
"I love you too."
