Theodore looked unimpressed as he got into the car.

"So yesterday wasn't a lie, huh?" Steve asked.

"Nope," Theodore said, slouching back in his seat. "I'm so damn tired. I was talking Russian last night." He looked over at Steve, who looked amused. "I walked in, said hi in Russian, and then couldn't stop for like, two hours. Mom was a bit worried. My head snapped a little."

Steve shook his head. "I don't think it takes much for that to happen."

"Fuck off."

"Hey, real talk - you did good last night. I know we're kinda ... at a stalemate? I just, you're a lot smarter than what you give yourself credit for. You're going places, knowing random languages, teaming up with Robin like that." Steve made a noise, then smiled at Theodore. "You do so much stuff, man, it's impressive."

Theodore looked over at him, hand over his face as he tried to hide his smile. "All I do is shoot a stick and string from the paleolithic era, and do nerdy science shit. And speak Russian thanks to my weird Russian dad."

"Your dad being Russian explains why he's such a dick."

"My aunt Vanya's not a dick. I think it's just Victor."

After picking up Robin and Dustin, they made their way into the mall.

"We should look for Russians in the mall." Dustin said as they made their way in, at ease with the lack of customers so early in the morning.

Theodore looked at Robin, and they both looked unimpressed.

"Sure, beats work. Theo, take my place." Steve put his hat on Theodore's head.

"No." Theodore said, taking it off. He threw it back at Steve. "Pay me for it."

"No."

"Then die mad about it, fucker."

Dustin made a noise that was a mix between amused and exasperated. "Are they always like this?"

"Yes, strange child." Robin said, and Theodore couldn't be bothered to take offence.

Steve gave Theodore a look, and he just shrugged in response. "You're going off trying to be a spy, but you're not subtle, and you're not sneaky." He pointed a finger at him. "And what, exactly, is going to give away this Russian spy? He's gonna be undercover."

"Uh, have you ever seen a Russian guy?"

"Yes! My fucking dad!"

"Then you know exactly how weirdly suspicious they look."

Theodore hoped he'd still have a will to live after today. "You're such a dumbass."
