Having left Hawkins behind, Theodore Smith thought he could have a normal university experience. Making friends with his awkward flatmates, trying to control his newfound powers, and longing for Steve Harrington ... it was as normal as he could make it. He missed his friends back in Hawkins, but now they were spread out, doing things for themselves, living their lives.
So when Theodore visits Hawkins during his break, he really should've known that something was going to go wrong. Hawkins was full of oddities, and it seemed it was up to him and his friends to sort it all out.
