As Lillie silently moped over Mew leaving her, she was startled when she saw a boy with platinum hair standing in front of her, excitement in his green eyes that looked identical to her own.
"Was there just a Legendary Pokémon behind you?" The boy asked giddily. "I could swear I saw Mew here, just now! Did you see it? A tiny pink Pokémon? It was floating really close to you!"
"Uh... No...?" Lillie said hesitantly, unsure of whether or not she should trust this boy.
"Oh." The boy said in disappointment. "I could swear I..." He shrugged and offered her his hand to shake. "Never mind. My name is Damian. I'm an aspiring Pokémon Trainer!"
The blonde teenager smiled and shook Damian's hand. "My name is Lillie. I too am an aspiring Pokémon Trainer!"
Lillie had no clue why those words came out of her mouth, as she had no clue what the word even meant, or if she even had any Pokémon in the first place.
"Anyway," Damian went on. "You came to Telnor Town at the perfect time! The Augur, the greatest man in the world, is coming today! You know who the Augur is, right?"
"No." Lillie replied.
"What?!" Damian's jaw dropped. "How could you not? Have you been living under a rock? He's the guy who protects the region! He's my biggest hero!"
Lillie smiled gently. "That's interesting."
"The mayor and the townsfolk have been preparing ever since this morning. I'm excited!" Damian squealed as if he were a girl. "I was just running errands before he arrives!" He gasped, apparently getting an idea. "I know! Why don't you help out? We're assigning jobs in the Town Hall!"
With that, Damian ran off into town, laughing like he just got what he wanted for Christmas.
Lillie shrugged before entering Telnor Town. She was pleased to see that the townspeople were very nice, definitely unlike Persephone and the Cult of Darkrai. She received five Pokéballs from the Pokémart clerk, some Potions from a young man with blue hair, and directions to the Town Hall from a girl around her age.
Upon entering the Town Hall, she spotted a group of people, among them Damian and two people who appeared to be his parents.
"I finished cleaning up the road. Is there anything else I can do?" Damian asked.
"Other than your gift for the Augur, no." Damian's father replied.
Damian saw his new friend and smiled. "Lillie, you're here!"
Lillie approached Damian and his family as the platinum haired boy introduced her.
"Stepmother, Dad, this is Lillie. I met her outside. She offered to help too."
"Actually, Damian, you kinda volunteered me to help, but who cares? That's what friends do, right?"
"Nice to meet you, Lillie." Damian's father greeted the blonde girl.
"You too, sir." Lillie said politely.
"Well, Damian, I think we're pretty well finished. As long as you have your gift for the Augur ready, I think you're done." Damian's father narrowed his eyes. "You do have your gift, right?"
Damian gasped in realization and smacked his forehead. "Oh... I may have... forgotten."
"Of course you have," Damian's father sighed. "You'd better find one, and fast. I heard you could find a Rare Stone in one of the caves in the forest. Of course, you'd need a Pokémon to go safely..."
"Uh-uh!" Snapped the woman next to Damian's father. "No! Absolutely not! Not a chance! Damian is not ready to get a Pokémon! He's still just a child!"
