"Do I really have to do this?" I asked, stretching.
"Batman wants you to know how to defend yourself. If you're associating with heroes, you need to be capable of that." Black Canary said.
"You know, Kaldur and his boss can both tell you how capable I am of defending myself. You can ask Wonder Woman too."
"How about you show us instead of insisting that you're a good fighter?" Artemis settled into a fighting stance. I sighed and mimicked her.
"Fine. But I'm not being held responsible for any accidental electrocution."
My fight with Artemis didn't take long, neither did the one where I badly beat up my cousin. As Dick's body hit the floor, I winced. I'm getting grounded later.
"Kaldur." Canary looked at him.
"Oh sweet Fish Jesus, this will end poorly." Kaldur took off his jacket, leaving him in a tshirt.
"Flattery will get you nowhere." I smiled.
"You are the one who got me into the habit of saying that."
"I never thought you actually would." My smile widened and I didn't hesitate before rushing forward.
Kaldur caught my first punch. "You forget I have trained with you."
I raised an eyebrow. "And you forget what I've done. Honestly, I thought you'd be paying more attention to how I can leverage your weight." And I flipped him. His back hit the ground and all of his breath left his lungs. "Learned that one from Annabeth."
"How are you this good at fighting?" Connor asked.
I shrugged before helping Kaldur up. "I have my reasons. One of which happens to be protecting my little brother."
"And her cousins, her friends, and nearly anyone else who needs protection." Kaldur's hand rested on my shoulder. "Percy is a good friend to have, and I am one of the few who can truly say I am her friend."
"I thought you had issues with kids being heroes?" Megan tilted her head.
"I do. I'll just beat up bullies or whatever. Speaking of which...I need to beat up Clarisse. She never apologized for replacing my mattress with a bed of nails."
"Was not that payback for when you replaced her favorite belonging with a pool noodle?"
"Kaldur, if we start going down that road you know we're never going to stop."
After the Kaldur fight, Canary decided she had seen enough and let me sit the rest of training out, along with those I fought. I leaned against Kaldur, ignoring the sweat. He tensed up, but wrapped an arm around me. There was nothing romantic about it, it was the same type of side hug he occasionally pulled me into before we were engaged.
"I am surprised you continue to wear that." He gestured to the necklace around my throat. "It means nothing."
"Yeah, but Dad doesn't know that. We need to make this act as convincing as possible so I need to wear the stupid betrothal necklace." I leaned further into Kaldur's side. He was warm, not surprising considering how sweaty he was and the fact we just got done training. His fingers tapped against my arm. The familar action gave me some comfort.
"I do not wear mine. I can always tell anyone who asks that I am concerned about my king's enemies targeting me and using me as leverage."
"At least you have that option. I have to wear this or else my dad will force me to marry someone." I avoided talking about the fact that even if I do keep wearing this necklace that we'll be forced to marry each other.
I...I still feel horrible about what I did. I thought maybe a good night's sleep would clear my mind, but that was too much to hope for.
Kaldur didn't say anything, he didn't have to. I could feel his heart beating quickly and his muscles were tense. Kaldur moved his arm from around me and moved away from me.
I crossed my legs and stared at the other members of the Team as they fought, ignoring Artemis as she sat next to me. That got harder when she decided to talk to me. I mean, yay, social interaction.
"So, what language are you guys speaking?"
"Greek. I'm half Greek so I learned it and Greek is taught in Atlantis from what he's told me." I glanced at Kaldur. He didn't look at me and a frown settled on his lips. I sighed and looked at Artemis. "Why do you want to know?"
"Just curious."
This time I frowned as she got up and walked to where Dick was. Still can't really believe that my- Oh my gods!
I shot to my feet. "Robin, I need to go home."
"Why?"
"Tyson has to be freaking out. I didn't tell him I was leaving and the last time I disappeared..." My eyes glazed over and a few memories ran through my head. I clenched my hands into fists. "Bad things happened and Tyson can't be anxious for that to happen again."
"Relax, Batman got a message to him. He thinks you're on a trip to see the Empire State Building. He did say something weird about saying hi to Dad?"
I swallowed. "Dad's family has some land and I try to make it a point to visit. Pay my respects and everything you know?" I mean, it's not too far from the truth.
Though tomorrow it's definitely not going to respectful.
The idea chain shall go here.
And I'm going to bed.
See yah
