I drummed my fingers against the table and stared at the sidekicks.
"So did he say how long this was going to take or will I have to sit here until the vampire decides it's safe to leave his lair?"
"He's not a vampire."
I rolled my eyes. No duh, he doesn't have a donkey leg or flaming hair. "Seriously, how long is this going to take? I have places to be."
"Where?" Kid Flash asked.
"Well, I have to meet his boss because he promised to take me to visit my mom's grave. And then I have plans to go to swimming. We might have to reschedule that, Kaldur."
He sighed. "I will do my best to find another day. However, you know how reluctant I am to take a day off."
"Oh wow I had no idea how hard it is for you." I rolled my eyes. "Oh and uh, are you going to that one thing?"
"Yes."
"Good." At least I won't be completely bored out of my mind.
"Can't get out of it?"
"Exactly." I mumbled.
The door to the cell opened and Batman walked in.
"Finally." I groaned. "What did you want to ask me? Or do you just feel like having children do your dirty work?"
"Like we keep telling you, we're trained to do this." Artemis said.
"And do I look like I care?" I raised an eyebrow. "You're still teenagers, kids. You shouldn't be fighting adults' battles."
Kaldur moved to stand behind me and I took a deep breath before releasing it. He's watching my back.
"Where were you when you went missing?" Batman asked.
"California. And then Alaska. That was not a fun trip. At all." I shuddered. "And then I hung out with some friends and there were explosions but I fully blame that on my luck. I mean, I've accidentally stabbed him before." I gestured to Kaldur.
"That was less of an accident than it was stealing your food."
"I'm talking about the second time I stabbed you, idiot."
"What about the Zhang's house in Canada?" Batman cut in.
"I was with Frank, we were visiting his grandma. We barely escaped the fire. And also I have legitimate reasons for pretty much anything you ask me. Including how I met Kaldur."
"How'd you meet him?" Robin asked.
"Percy, don't...please." Kaldur said.
"Nope, too late. So I was minding my own business, swimming in the ocean and I see something floating in the water. I swim over to it and here's this idiot tangled in a net. He couldn't get out of it while I just ripped it apart."
"I had been swimming all day and I was lost."
"I'm sorry it's not like you can drown. You could have taken a nap."
Kaldur walked towards the door.
"Where are you going?" I asked.
"I am going to find a fishing net." Kaldur said before walking out.
"Wow, that's going to be fun." I chuckled and stood up. "If that's all you needed me for, I'm going to find Kaldur and go swimming, before being happy that I have my swimsuit on under this." I stood and headed after Kaldur. I saw him at the end of a hallway and I called after him.
He turned to look at me and paused to let me catch up. "How did you get out?"
"I have a lot of practice getting out of situations like that. If I surprise them and act like I'm in charge, I can usually walk out of the room."
"How well does that work with your uncle?"
"I prefer to use sass for family members. You want to get our swimming in before I go to the cemetery?"
"You are already here." He smiled. "I will get changed." He gave me directions on how to get to the back door before going to change.
It didn't take long for me to find the room he was talking about and it didn't take very long after that for Kaldur to join me.
The door opened and we walked out onto the beach.
"Are you going to swim in that?" Kaldur asked.
I shook my head and pulled off my shirt.
"Percy!"
"Kaldur, it's not like I wouldn't have anything on under this and it's not like I care if people would see me in my bra." I tossed my shirt onto the sand and took off my pants to reveal the bottoms for my bikini.
"That is a fair point. How far do you wish to swim? Or how long?"
"Orin said he'd pick me up at five do we have awhile. Race you to the water." I took off and beat him by a solid ten seconds.
We hung around the surface, racing each other and splashing each other. I didn't want to go underwater, it would be too risky. I don't want to breathe in water and then forget to surface to get air.
"How are you feeling about this event?"
"It's going to suck." I floated on my back. "I'm just happy you're going to be there." I tilted my head back to smile at him.
He swam over and grabbed my arm to steady himself. Water dripped off of his face and the corners of his mouth twitched. "It will be interesting. I wonder how long it will take for you to flip out on everyone."
"Probably just you cause you know better than to use my title."
"If I did not use it, I would get in trouble."
"Well, then I'll just flip out on all the people who'll try to get me to date them. It's so annoying. People need to just leave me alone and not be like, hey do you want to date and then marry me so I can advance my family's position?"
"Okay, just flip out on me. I would rather not have to sit through a lecture on why you cannot kill suitors."
"Atalanta did it!"
"And she ended up a lion and is pulling a goddess's chariot after sleeping with her husband in Zeus's temple. She is not the best role model."
"Fine. I'll do only the murder part."
"Percy!"
