"I'm sleeping in here."
Kaldur blinked and looked at me. "What?"
I dragged my blankets into his room, every single one had been stripped off of my bed before being pulled across the cold floors. I had every intention of curling up somewhere where there was someone else, and I didn't particularly care who. Megan was an option, but...I'm not sure how much I trust someone with the ability to look into my mind.
"I-" I swallowed. "My nightmares have been getting worse, and if- If I don't have someone nearby, nothing good is going to come of it." Slowly exhaling, I stared at Kaldur. After a moment when he didn't respond, my shoulders fell. "I can go if you want?"
A soft sigh pushed through his lips. His chair scraped against the ground and he walked over to me. "Give me your blankets." Despite phrasing it like a question, he gave me no choice, snatching them from my grip. He piled them on his bed, on top of his own and with no apparent thought to where he was sleeping. Well, I suppose he could sleep on the bed, but being that close to someone with destructive powers is not a good idea when said person has a track record of breaking people limbs in their sleep.
Not to say that Clarisse didn't deserve it.
"You know, I was just going to sleep on the floor. You don't need to do this. I mean, I'd much rather you didn't because floors are comfy, and I'm fine with sleeping there."
"Even though you are my friend, Percy, you are still a princess. I do not mind giving up my bed for you."
I opened my mouth and closed it. Arguing with him is like arguing with a brick wall. A single blanket and pillow were drawn out of the pile and placed on the ground. It wasn't going to be a comfortable resting spot, something I had known, but the place Kaldur was choosing to sleep was odd. Right below the bed, literally right below it. He nudged me towards the bed, staring at me until I crawled in. Any protest I might've had died. The way the blankets had been arranged, placed his over mine. Under different circumstances, I might've cared. Not in these ones though. Why? What made this different?
Apparently Kaldur is the best at creating comfortable sleeping arrangements
The gentle shuffle of papers hit my ears, before the lights flicked off. The little light coming from the alarm clock reflected against Kaldur's cat-like pupils.
"That will never stop being weird," I said.
"You are only jealous that I have better night vision than you do."
Well yes, but also no.
Time ticked on slowly, with what seemed like hours passed, though the clock only ticked forward by ten. Note to self, if I get the chance to, kick the crap out of Kronos. Might actually be able to do it now, actually with- Now that was a train of thought I did not want to go down. I huffed and turned over, before slowly twisting my body until I laid sideways across the bed.
"You still awake?" I asked.
"Mhm."
I stared down at him, one arm dangling. "There's enough room up here for you to sleep."
"You said you have been more prone to nightmares."
"Yeah..." I leaned a little further, overestimating how much of my weight was left as an anchor. My body pitched forward, sending me crashing against Kaldur. "Fuck." I hissed as pain shot through my chest. Falling chest to chest is a lot more painful that movies would lead you to believe. Organic milk sacs hurt.
A strong arm wrapped around my waist. "Are you okay?"
"I'm good."
I didn't get up. Say what you will, but Kaldur is very comfy. After a minute of laying there like that, he sat up. He tilted his head to look up at the bed. "Do you think I could throw you up there?"
"If you do it, I tell Tyson you tried to murder me."
"I am physically incapable of hurting you on purpose."
"You can still hurt me."
"Not if I like my soul firmly in my body."
I snorted, finally standing up. But I didn't let Kaldur go, oh no, with a firm grip around his wrist I pulled him up into the bed. "Come on, it's your bed. You shouldn't be sleeping on the ground." Limbs curled around mine, both of us trying to make the most of the shared bedspace. Soft breathing became the only thing I could hear. One of Kaldur's hands moved, resting on my side.
"Percy," Kaldur mumbled. The tips of his fingers dug into my skin, nails noticeable even through my shirt. One eye cracked open. "Can you promise me something? I know you don't like child sidekicks, but please try to get along with the others in the Team."
I scowled. "You know why I don't like it. Hades, you shouldn't like it either. We were both child soldiers. Neither of us had a choice in getting into this life, we both know how fast something can go wrong. One day, someone on this team is going to get killed, and everyone else is going to be telling themselves that they could've done more, that they could've saved them. No kid should have to risk losing their life and making other kids go through that, especially when there are plenty of adults to do the job for them."
"Are you sure you do not want me to set up an appointment with Black Canary for you?"
"And talk to her about what? Not like I can walk in and say I am what I am. Diana kinda screwed that chance up with what she's said." Me saying I'm a daughter of Poseidon would get her in so much trouble with the League, and me in trouble with her dad.
Kaldur sighed. "Still, perhaps you could-"
"Night."
"Percy."
"Goodnight, Kaldur."
