I groaned and opened my eyes, only to see Kaldur looking through his drawers.
"Okay, two questions. Why am I in your room? And what are you looking for?"
He glanced back at me. "You are a hard person to pry off. And I cannot seem to find my medallion."
"I'm sure it'll turn up. Not like there are many people around here who would take it. What's the real reason I'm in here? We both know you can easily get me off of you."
His jaw clenched. "In all honesty, you seemed on the edge of a night terror. I'd prefer to be in a situation where I can keep the Team from panicking."
Going back to searching for his medallion, he didn't pay any attention to my movements. I stood up and walked to him. I put my hand on his shoulder.
"Come on, it's not going to go anywhere." I'd like to say I guided him to the bed, when in all actuality I had to forcibly drag him. The moment he was close enough I whacked him with a pillow.
"Really?" He raised an eyebrow, grabbing his other pillow. "I think you forget who you are dealing with."
And so began our pillow fight. It was nice, it distracted us from what would happen in a months time. Wellz for me at least. For all I know it might have had the opposite effect on Kaldur. It could have made him realize he'd never have a normal life, not that being a hero is normal by any standards but...
In the end, it didn't matter. We both sat on the floor laughing and gasping for breath. It was just like old times, back when I first met him, before he was Aqualad, before he was even my guard that one visit to Poseidonis.
Unfortunately, it was short lived. The moment Kaldur's eyes caught my necklace, his laughter faded away. Mine soon followed and we sat in an awkward silence. I tucked the necklace under my shirt, trying to make it less awkward. Somehow it made it that much more worse.
Kaldur gave a small cough. He stood up. "Perhaps one of the others has seen it."
"I'll help," I said, wanting to do something to get rid of this feeling. Surprisingly, he didn't argue. We were silent as we walked towards the living room. "I, um, I talked to my cousin. I tried to see if she could get us out of this."
"And?"
"No luck."
"Then why mention it?"
I almost growled. I almost let my frustration get the better of me. The only thing that kept me from having to go back to anger management was the reminder that he has every right to be angry with me.
I didn't say anything else after that, even when we found the rest of the Team discussing something that must have happened while I was asleep.
"Why would they target Megan?" Connor asked, his arm wrapped around her protectively. "None of the villains had ever seen her in that form I have no idea who they were either, which is weird. The G-Nomes taught me a lot about villains and organizations."
"What happened?" Kaldur asked.
"Megan was attacked. The people managed to get away, and Robin hasn't had any luck tracking them down."
Moving towards Megan, Kaldur froze. His eyes focused on the piece of metal hanging from Megan's neck.
"Percy, do you think-"
"I wouldn't doubt it. You know how many monsters want me dead. They'll target people I care about just because they can. They probably sensed the energy from the medallion. Guess I'm bi now. I can finally fit in with my family."
"Megan, where did you find my medallion at?" Kaldur sat beside her. His fingers messed with the webbing on his opposite hand.
"Oh, it's yours? I found it in the sand, I thought it had washed up. Here." Without hesitation, Megan gave it back to him. Kaldur wrapped the cord around his wrist, making sure the medallion was pressed flat. "What's it for?"
"I denotes that I have a connection to a certain family in Atlantis. It allows me entry into their holdings without much red tape."
"And why is it almost identical to the one she has?" Dick asked, leaning back and putting his hands behind his head.
"Because I know his boss? Because I'm friends with him? Because of like a million different factors that don't change the fact that I breathe air? These medallions aren't that rare." A very very very untrue statement. If not for the fact that I can breathe water, then for the fact that Dad made these things himself. "If you excuse me, I'm going to go home, find my brother and just give into the crippling anxiety that consumes my every day."
I didn't wait for a response. I headed to the Zeta Tubes, typed in the destination and let it scan me before heading back to the Manor.
"Percy, you're supposed to be-"
"Seeing why child sidekicks are necessary? No offense Bruce, I have other things on my mind. Where's Tyson?"
"His room."
"Thanks."
True to Bruce's words, I found Tyson tinkering on his bed. I mumbled a hi and climbed on next to him. I laid with my head on his leg.
"Percy? Sister, what's wrong?" Tyson stared at me, stopping what he was doing.
"Nothing Tyson." I didn't want to worry him. It would only make him upset.
He patted my head gently, before running his fingers through my hair. I relaxed, closing my eyes, and wishing I could do this all the time. Just sit here and relax with my brother, without worrying about anything else.
