Randel waited, preparing himself for what was about to happen.
The creature watched on smiling, waiting as well.
After a moment, Randel felt his lower body go numb, but, before he could sink down...
"AAAAHHHH!"
A single ray of light shot out from the liquid, making Randel throw his head back and scream in pain.
The creature tilted its head.
"Oh, that's right... You're the product of an experiment, not a regular human..."
It sighed.
"I guess that, instead of just regularly decomposing down into that, you have a reaction. Seems like you don't just break down like the others did..."
The creature looked back, and the sight made it float back a bit, eyes going wide.
Randel was still screaming, more rays of bright light shooting out of his body. The liquid, however, wasn't growing, nor was he sinking.
The creature sighed.
"Alright. Guess I have to watch you die this way then."
Randel panted, groaning as he lowered his head back down.
Before he could say anything, the liquid around him pulled away, making him fall back onto the green grass below.
Some of it still stayed on him, however, and he twitched as he once again screamed from the pain, another ray of right bursting out of his leg.
"Say, Randel, is this how your body broke down before?" The creature asked curiously.
Randel gritted his teeth and closed his eyes, tears still streaming down his grey cheeks.
"I d-didn't s-see..."
He groaned.
"It... but... y-yes..."
He took in a breath.
It w-was after.... ah, after I d-died on t-that third l-level of... ngh, t-that structure..."
Randel felt white hot pain shoot throughout his body, and it made in scream in agony once more.
The creature hummed in satisfaction, floating closer to him.
"So, instead of decomposing, this happens? Why, as I must imagine, it must be very painful now, since you're still alive."
More rays of light burst out of Randel's upper body, making it too painful to even move.
He twitched, eyes squinted shut as he groaned loudly through clenched teeth.
"It... AH... It's n-not, ngh, g-going t-to.... AAHHH... to-"
His eyes shot open, and he let out the loudest scream of all as a large ray of light sprouted out of his chest.
Randel's hands grabbed at the grass below him, drops of liquid still sticking to them.
The creature stopped at his side, arms crossed.
"Not going to what?"
Randel panted, trying to gain enough strength to speak.
"I... I'm n-not dead, so... Ah... so it's n-not going t-to... f-finish..."
The creature groaned, throwing its head to the side for a moment.
"Oh, you have to be kidding me. This?"
It reached its hand out to touch a ray.
"This isn't goi-"
The tip of one of its fingers brushed up against the ray, and a white burst of light blinded the creature as it pulled its hand back with a scream.
It held its hand up to its chest, eyes squinted shut as it groaned.
"What the!?"
It stretched out its arm, only to see that its entire hand was now white.
A moment, later, the pain began.
Randel opened his eyes, staring at the figure next to him as it screamed.
"AAHH! WHAT... WHAT'S HAPPENING TO ME!?"
White light grew out of its hand, only to bend around and crash into its body.
It screamed again as it felt a deep, sharp pain.
"NO, NO, NO! THIS CAN'T BE HAPPENING!"
Gathering all the strength he had left, Randel raised his head up, and he smiled.
The creature was being covered by white light now, and it screamed in pain.
"YOU... YOU ACTUALLY FOUND A W-WAY TO..."
It covered its face in its hands, the white light wrapping around it. The creature doubled over, screaming in absolute agony.
"NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!"
Randel watched as the creature seemed to shrink into itself, now nothing more than a grey ball in the pure white circle that enveloped it.
The white light dissipated, and the grey orb burst, causing Randel to turn his head away, for it was accompanied with a white flash.
The creature's final scream echoed throughout the area.
"AAAAAAAHHHHHHH!"
Once it was over, Randel's head fell back as he panted heavily, still groaning quietly as he felt even weaker than before.
Slowly, the few drops of liquid flowed off of him, feeling fully returning to his body.
The liquid around Randel seemed to freeze, no more waves crashing down as Randel basked in the silence.
Randel's mind was swimming, barely holding onto consciousness as the hole of light on his chest slowly closed.
As the sun began to appear over the horizon, the liquid began to recede.
