Bill began to talk, snapping me out of my thoughts. "Bree and Bev w-were t-t-th-th o-only two of u-us w-who g-got t-taken over b-b-by them."
"We were all touched by it, changed. Deep down, like an infection, or a virus. A virus, you understand?" Mike asked Eddie as Eddie tried to get away. "That virus, it's been growing for 27 years. This whole time getting bigger! It just almost killed Stanley first because-he's the weakest." Richie finished. It was true, and I think Stan knew it too.
"Jesus Christ Rich." Bill said. (Sorry if you're super religious, but you probably wouldn't even be reading this anyway lol)
"I was just saying what we were all thinking man! Besides, I don't see Stan complaining." Richie pointed out.
"I mean Rich come on, what Bev and Bree are seeing, will come to pass. It's what'll happen to all of us eventually, unless we stop it." Mike said.
"How the hell are we supposed to do that?" Eddie asked.
"The ritual of Chudd. I went to see these people, they were the first ones to fight IT. They have a saying, 'All living things must abided by the laws of the shape they inhabit'." Mike told us.
"A tribal ritual?" Richie asked. "Are you-are you fucking kidding me man?! Alright there's got to be another way, this thing comes back, what? Every 27 years? Let's just kick the cam down the road and do it then."
"Richie, we'll be 68 years old, okay? We'll be way too fucking old to fight this thing. It's now or never." I told him.
"Yeah, we'll be 70 years old asswhole." Eddie told him.
"It doesn't work that way." Bev told them. "None of us make it another 20 years and.....and the way it happens......." Bev said, not being able to get the last part out. Richie took a shot.
"So we if we don't beat it. If we don't beat this cycle then..."
"We die." Bill said, finishing my sentence.
"Horribly." Stanley said. He was right behind me. He grabbed my hand and held it. "Really horribly."
"Yeah, I don't need the horribly part." Richie said almost trailing off in the end.
"I didn't say it, Bree said it." Stan told him.
"Okay guess look, I s-s-see w-w-what he's talking about and I-I-I-it's a-a-a-all true." Bill told us. I looked at him and he looked at me. "It's the only way. If we want this ritual to work...."
"We have to remember." I finished for him.
"Remember what?" Richie asked me harshly. Mike and I just looked at each other, knowing exactly what to do.
"It's better if we show you." Mike told them. "But we don't have that much time. The cycle will end soon. And once it does....."
"We're fucked." Eddie finished for Mike.
"Follow me muchachos." I said, getting up, and walking towards the door.
"Follow you where?" Richie asked.
"Just shut your dumb ass face up and follow me dipshit." I told him. We began to walk to downtown Derry, it was just like old times. Bill, Richie, Eddie, Stanley, and I all used to come here at least almost every Saturday to hang out. Only this time, it was much more serious. Mike took the front and I took the rear near Richie, we walked through the field we went through after we beat Bowers in the rock war and made him one of us.
July, 1989
"Go blow your dad you mullet wearing asshole!" Later on, we were all walking back to our bikes.
