With a jolt, you found yourself awake, knuckles white from how tightly you had been clenching your fists.

Your cheeks, you noticed, were ice-cold. Slowly, your hand trailed up to your face, and as you traced your fingers over your cheeks, you realized that they were wet with your tears.

Tears. They fell soundlessly onto the earth from your bloodshot eyes, and you sniffled softly. You let in a deep breath, hoping that it would help calm you down.

Don't think about it, you told yourself as the contents of your dream began to replay in your mind. It was just a nightmare, nothing more and nothing less. It's not like you haven't had one before.

However, your attempts to push aside your nightmare were futile. There was something about it that made you feel so guilty, so absolutely horrible about yourself. You wanted to push aside all of your negative thoughts, to believe that you hadn't made the wrong decision by running away, but you simply couldn't.

With a heaving sob, you lowered your head down, only to bump into a mass of soft, silky fur.

As you forced yourself back to reality, you found your eyes locking with gentle yellow ones. Eeriuffi let out a small bark as he pressed his head against your chest, and immediately, his warmth seeped into your skin.

Even with the wolf's presence, you still couldn't manage to stop the onslaught of your emotions, and tears continued to stream down your face. Eeriuffi let out a quiet whimper, and he moved his face towards yours as he began to lap at your tears.

Shakily, you grabbed a hold of his shoulders, gently stroking his soft fur as you pressed your forehead against his.

"Damn that vampire," you choked out, and Eeriuffi let out a soft huff in response. "Damn him."

Although he didn't physically hurt you, the vampire's mere presence had brought about all of your current turmoil. If he hadn't shown up, you told yourself, you wouldn't be in this situation, full of anguish and guilt over your decision to abandon humanity to live among wolves.

It was his fault.

Or maybe it's not. Another voice, just a mere whisper, seemed to speak to you from the depths of your mind.

Steadily, you felt your heart rate begin to slow. As your breathing became more stabilized, the voice became louder, no longer a whisper. That guilt you feel? It's been there the whole time. He just happened to remind you of it.

"Has it?" you wondered out loud. Eeriuffi looked up at the sound of your voice, one ear perked with curiosity.

Seeing that vampire today and coming out of the situation completely unscathed reminded you of how lucky you were. You're living a life full of freedom, a life full of solace and joy, while you know other humans are fighting  amongst one another to survive, while you know that other humans are being enslaved by the vampires.

Although you still wished to remain ignorant from this truth, you began to realize that you no longer would be able to. After your nightmare, you began to remember your encounter with the boy in the supermarket from the years prior.

You had been absolutely mortified during the situation, and as a result, you had locked away any memory of it. You had done the same with the night of the apocalypse, too; all recollection you had of it seemed to magically disappear into the deepest depths of your mind once you made your way to Aokigahara, and it had managed to stay there, up until today.

Now that the memories had completely resurfaced, you weren't quite sure you'd be able to subdue them once more. Even if you could, you weren't sure if you'd even have the heart to try and lock them away again, either. It just didn't seem right to you anymore to pretend like it had never happened. You needed to learn to accept the fact that humans had, and more than likely, still were dying while you wandered around in a forest, free.
