Flora had always been a pretty girl. Ever since she was young her chestnut curls and baby blue eyes had caught the attention of every passerby.
She was one of average intelligence, but there were times when her mouth got ahead of her. She had a sharp tongue, but often speaking before thinking she came off as idiotic.
It killed her that people thought of her that way.
It killed her.
Flora had one true talent, charms.
Fittingly enough, she was also rather charming. She attended social gatherings, and often preferred to sit talking at the table.
She could perform even the most complex charms. She had cracked the levitation charm even without a second try, and she often got in trouble during duels for using charms instead of jinxes. It was in instances like these that she held her tongue.
Flora was walking with Abraxas Malfoy, one of her closest friends. He understood her.
They were walking to care of magical creatures, their shoes clicking on the cool stone of the castle.
Both understood the importance of earliness, understanding how silly it would look for them to run through the school.
"Father says I shall inherit the family estate soon, and he and mother shall leave to the home in the south of France." Said Abraxas, who cares from much higher up the social hierarchy than Flora.
"That is fabulous, Abraxas, the southern France is awfully warm though isn't it?" Asked Flora.
"I suppose, but they can always come visit if it gets to toasty." Said Abraxas.
"Just you and the house elf. Won't you get awfully lonely, in that big house?" Asked Flora, concerned for her friend.
"You are forgetting the many portraits of Malfoys long gone, filling my brain with nothing but their incessant wining." Said Abraxas sourly, his posture weakening ever so slightly.
"How terrible it must be to be dead and two dimensional." Said Flora, dramatically.
"Yes, but much worse for me, because I have to deal with them." Said Abraxas, as the pair stepped outside and began the descent to the edge of the forbidden forest. "Speaking of people I have to deal with, what is going on between you and Riddle?"
Flora blushed profusely and looked down. Tom Riddle, in her opinion, was the most extraordinary piece of the puzzle that was her life.
He was fascinating. And he was dark and mysterious.
"Flora, he treats you, and talks about you like an object." Said Abraxas.
Flora frowned, she just wanted to disappear, this was not the first time they had had this conversation. She knew she was being used.
She was also being brought to impressive dinners filled with lively and interesting people. And when he took her hand it was like sparks ignited across her entire body.
"He speaks of me?" Asksd Flora, as the thought registered in her mind. Of her name passing through his lips at all was something she found astonishing.
They had caught up to a group of hufflepuffs who were over eager to speak with animals.
She spotted, Fiona Harper, a friend. She opted to continue her conversation with Abraxas instead as the two did not get along.
Abraxas let out a long sigh. "What do you know of Cordelia Sage?" He asked changing the subject.
"She is quite smart, in my dorm she is studying constantly, helps me with my homework, why? Have you found her to be your ideal match." Asked Flora.
