Kyle was on his way home when he decided to stop at one of the local villages for the night. He made his way to the town’s local inn when his senses were overwhelmed with the most delicious smell he ever smelled, and this was something coming from a prince with a sweet who had eaten a variety of sweet dishes in his lifetime. He changed his direction from the inn to the way the smell was pulling him. After a few twists and turns he arrived outside a small bakery. There was a small ding at the door when he entered the bakery and once his eyes landed on the assortment of pastries, pies and sweets, his mouth started to water.
“Can I help you?” he heard a sweet voice asked and when he tore his gaze from the variety of mouth-watering food his eyes met a pair of dazzling green ones. Kyle’s thoughts was scrambled as he got lost in the beautiful eyes before him, it was as if a spell was placed over him. The girl entranced him with her beauty and it took a second to compose himself.
“I wanted a piece of whatever delicacy was causing that delicious smell wafting through the town,” he said with a grin.
The girl returned his grin with a smile of her own and took out a piece of her new apple pie she baked that morning and plated it for the stranger. She handed him a fork and watched as the man took a huge bite of the pie. Kyle moaned as the scrumptious apple pie attacked his taste buds.
“This is the best pie I’ve ever had,” he said before he wolfed down the rest. Once he was done he asked for another piece. Everly was proud of her baked goods and plated another piece for the stranger. Once he was done with his second piece he gave her a huge smile before taking out his coin pouch.
“How much do I owe you?” He asked.
“It’s free, seeing as you were my taste tester,” she said with a grin.
“I will definitely come back, and then I will pay for it,” he said giving her a wink before bidding her goodbye.
After spending the night in the town inn, Kyle was ready to head home, but he had a stop to make first. He returned to the bakery.
When Everly saw the stranger of yesterday entering the bakery her heart sped up a bit, this man loved her baked goods and he was easy on the eye.
“Already addicted to my sweets?” she asked teasingly and immediately reprimanded herself. She didn’t even know his name and she was already making jokes.
“Yes, and I’m paying this time. I’ll take one of everything,” He said and she grabbed a basket before she started to pack her variety sweets into it for the man. When she was done he gave her a small bag of coins that was way more that he owed her, but when she wanted to object he told her that he wasn’t taking anything back. He gave her a smile before he took his leave, baked goods in hand.
She could only hope she saw the stranger again, and her wish came true, the man returned every second day for a basket full of her baked goods. As time passed they became great friends and she couldn’t wait for his regular visits. She couldn’t help but smile every time she thought of him. As she was cleaning the bakery floor her thoughts continued to drift To Kyle. He was something else.
“So the boy returned?” she heard a menacing voice behind her and a gasp left her lips when she saw her father behind her.
“His just a loyal customer,” she said and hoped her father would believe her.
“I wonder if he is after you or the sweets. Have you forgotten you belong to me?” He asked and she shook her head frantically as her hand slipped to her necklace subconsciously.
“Your under my spell and belong to me, get back to work,” right at that moment Everly remembered that she wasn’t a carefree young maiden, but a slave that turned into a swan every night. Prohibiting her from running away, she is bound to this man she calls father, she works for him in return for food and a roof.
When Kyle returned the following day, Everly knew her father was watching their exchange like a hawk. He won’t risk anyone finding out about the way he’s been treating his daughter.
“Good day,” she said monotonously.
“Everly? Are you alright?” Kyle asked when he saw Everly’s strange behaviour.
“Yes, what can I get you?” She asked sharply and Kyle knew something was wrong. He told her what he wanted and then he left vowing to himself that he would get to the bottom of her behaviour.
He stayed hidden in the forest as he kept watch over the bakery waiting for Everly to leave so that he could follow her and talk to her in private.
It was nearly sunset when she finally left the bakery and he followed her. He followed her to a small lake and as soon as the sunset he watched as she transformed into a beautiful swan. His breath was caught in his throat before he let out a gasp. When she saw him she had fear in her eyes and he approached her slowly, hands up in surrender. His eyes landed on the necklace around her neck and recognised it as an enchanted necklace. Once he was sure she wasn’t going to fly away he broke the necklace and she was released from her spell. She looked at him gratefully before grabbing him in a hug.
“Thank you,” And he took her home with him where they lived happily ever after. The only magically trance left over them, was that of their own creation, their love for one another.
