As I entered my apartment, I let out let out a loud sigh. I heard a soft 'meow' and smiled.
"Hello, Benjamin. Did you miss me?" I asked, giving him a quick pat on his head.
I headed towards my bedroom to put my bags down and I noticed my desk computer had two new emails: one from my new economics professor and some junk mail from the school.
"I thought I blocked these..." I adjusted my glasses.
I opened up my teacher's email which read:
Good afternoon students,
Due to a timing error, our class will now meet on Monday's and Wednesday's at 9:30-10:55 am. Your first assignment is to read chapters 1 and 2 and write a short summary with an assigned partner. We will discuss this assignment in detail on Monday.
"Damn...an assignment already?" I mumbled. "Eh, no biggie."
I heard Benjamin meow from the other room and I saw that he was sitting at his food bowl.
"Hungry already, Benjamin?" I laughed, "it's only four o'clock."
He meowed in response and rubbed his body against my leg.
"Alright, alright..." I said as stepped towards the pantry then gasped. "Is this really the last can? Aw man..."
I grabbed a small bowl from the cabinet and scraped the food out of the tin with a toothpick. Soon as I placed the bowl on the floor, Benjamin scurried to bowl to chow down.
"Jeez Ben...you act like I haven't fed you in four days. Whelp, I might as well head to the store now before it gets dark."
I quickly grabbed a jacket, my wallet and keys, and started my walk to the store. Since the nearest grocery store was only two blocks away, it was pretty pointless to use a car.
When I got there, I noticed a familiar face walking towards me. She was wearing a black suspender skirt with a white shirt underneath.
"Yo, Alice!" I waved. She paused for a second and then rushed towards me in an embrace.
"Simon!" She squeezed me. "How are you?"
"I'm good...this is a little tight though." I said while choking on my words.
"Oh sorry. What are you doing here?"
"Just buying some food for Benjamin." I explained as we walked inside. "You?"
"Just a little grocery shopping. I'm making a beef and vegetable stew for dinner."
"Sounds good. Well, I'll see you around."
"Yeah, sure!" She waved.
After shopping, I returned to my apartment and noticed a flyer in the door. It looked like advertising for a band concert playing on campus. 'The Midnight Crows'; It looked kinda cool...
That night, I got a group text from Alice and my other friend Eli:

Eli: Yo, did y'all get rock band flyer?
Alice: I did. I didn't think they'd be coming here!
Me: Same here. Who are they?
Alice: They're rock and roll band obviously lol they're pretty famous around here. They usually play at large birthday parties and town festivals.
Alice: Plus, the band leader is really cute 😍
Me: Oh lord 🙄
Eli: Do you guys wanna go? They're playing tomorrow at 7 pm.
Alice: I'm in! 🎸 ✨
Me: On a Sunday? I'll pass.
Eli: Come on Si'. It says students get in for free! 😃
Alice: Win win!
Me: Nah, I got a 9:30 on Monday.
Eli: Damn, that sucks. Well Alice and I will tell you how it went.
Me: Cool. Night guys.
Eli: Night bro
Alice: 😴😴

When Sunday finally came around, I got a text from Eli at 6:50 that read:

Eli: Dude! I think the whole campus is out here. You gotta come down!
Me: Really?
Eli: Yeah, Alice and I are here now getting some food. There's so much hype and it hasn't even started yet!
Eli: Kennedi and Sloan are here too.
Damn...should I go?
Me: Man...idk. How long are they playing for?
Eli: Til midnight? I think.
Me: What?! Oh nah, I'm good.
Eli: Well, you don't have to stay the whole time. You could come for the first hour.
Me: Nah, just tell me how it went.
Eli: Alright bro

I tossed my phone on the couch and sighed. I felt Benjamin hop into my lap.
"I have a feeling we won't be able to sleep tonight, Ben." I petted him.
- 10:32 pm -
"Jesus, that music loud..." I looked out of my bedroom window, "I'm surprised they attracted that many people on a Sunday night."
I jumped into bed and sighed, "Only a few hours left. It's fine..."
- 1:39 am -
"Why..." I pleaded, covering my ears with two pillows, "Why isn't it over yet? God? What have I done to deserve this?"
I glanced at Benjamin and he was sound asleep in his bed. How the hell...?
- 2:30 am -
"Take on me..." I sang aloud as I raised my hands, "take me on...I'll be be gone, in a day or TWO!!"
"Shut up! We're trying to sleep!" Someone yelled, banging on my bedroom wall.
I quickly covered my mouth and noticed...it was quiet. No beats, no shouting—pure silence. I glanced at my clock and realized it was past two a.m.
"I hope I'll be able to get up later..." I groaned into my pillow.
