The next week after, the Midnight Crows were having a small show at a lounge downtown. Dexter told me that he was doing a solo song and he wanted me to be there. Of course I wanted to go, but...
"So, are you gonna go?" Kennedi asked me, while walking with Alice.
"I don't know. I'd love too but—" I tried to explain.
"Homework?" Alice rolled her eyes.
"Well, yeah..." I smiled.
"I'm pretty sure you're an A student." Alice smirked, "You don't have to do everything on time."
"Yeah, you can do it after the show." Kennedi added.
"But...I don't like that—it feels weird doing it that way.""How? I stay up to do homework every night." Kennedi said.
"Yeah, but I have a process—everything has to be timed."
"Oh my lord, Simon..." Alice groaned.
"No seriously! If I don't follow the schedule, everything will go haywire.""Yo Simon!" A guy waved while walking towards us.
"Oh hey, Matt! What's up?"
"Nothing, I just got outta class." He smiled.
"Oh, this Alice and Kennedi." I introduced them. They exchanged greetings and Matt turned to me.
"Dex is having a thing downtown. Do you wanna go together?"
"Well—"
"He'll go." Kennedi answered for me.
"Wait—"Kennedi elbowed me in the gut and hunched over, feeling my stomach jump out of my throat.
"He'll text you." She added.
"O-okay, I don't have his number but—"
She gave out my number aloud and he wrote it down.
"Cool, um...are you sure you wanna go?" He confirmed with me.
"Sure, I guess." I heavily sighed, throwing my hands up.
"Okay. I'll text you tonight!" He walked off.Soon as he left, I pushed Kennedi's shoulder out of anger.
"Why did you do that?!"
"Because, you need to get out!" She crossed her arms.
I looked at Alice and she shrugged.
"I do go out." I pouted
"Do you? The last time we went out as a group, was the beginning of the semester." Alice said as we continued walking, "You'd want to see your boyfriend perform, right?""Yeah..." I blushed a little. I immediately thought about the compromise that we made...
"So, you're going?" Kennedi asked.
"Yeah, I'll go." I groaned, "Just don't hit me next time."
"Did Matt seem weird to you guys?" Alice asked, looking behind her.
"Not really." Kennedi said.
"He seemed really...giddy after Simon said 'yes'."
"Maybe he's just excited about the show." Kennedi shrugged. That evening, I got off work early and quickly headed home to change. In the middle of feeding Benjamin, I got a text from Matt:
___________________________________
Him: Hey! The show starts at 7:30 What dorm are you in? I'll come pick you up.
___________________________________
While typing my address I thought: Wait, I barely know Matt. Maybe I should meet him at a public place.
___________________________________
Me: I'll meet you at the general ed building at 7
Him: Ok. I'll see you there

I put the bowl of cat food on the floor and went to the bathroom to brush my hair and wash my face. This will be my first time seeing Dexter perform, and for some reason, I was nervous. I'd imagine he would do well but, I felt scared for him.
I grabbed my things and made my way down to general education building. Matt and I locked eyes from afar and he met me halfway.
"Hey. Ready to go?" He asked.
I nodded and we got in a small blue car.
"Are you excited?" He asked.
"Yeah—but a little nervous." I confessed, "This'll be my first time seeing him perform."
"Seriously?!" He exclaimed. "You better get ready."
